Football is Fixed

I don't share their absolutist position.

I do to be honest, there's no way that games in the English Premiership are fixed, absolutely no chance whatsoever that has ever gone on, even in the Championship its extremely unlikely to the point of being impossible, I don't doubt there is match fixing in English football, but no way in the top two leagues absolutely no chance whatsoever, thats the biggest sport in the world on the biggest domestic stage of all, its just not possible for a variety of reasons.

The same way that Sottish votes aren't rigged? The same way that US votes aren't rigged? Even with all that scrutiny?

Do you know how much more they can earn if they play the other game?

I actually said already I don't think the referendum was fixed, though they were prepared to if they had to, but it is completely different, a football match takes place in public watched by the eyes of millions, and to fix that you'd have to corrupt an outside agent, that is completely different to Westminster being able to fix an election that Westminster is holding, that would be very easy to do and impossible to prove it had been done.

I do but money as a motivation is reduced massively if the player in question already has a lot of it and is going to earn much more anyway, as is the case with every single player in the EPL, who are all now millionaires except youth team players breaking through who soon will be.

I don't mean to offend David or anyone here, I just disagree, I don't doubt match fixing is very common but not in the EPL it isn't, to say it is is just a wild accusation that has never been proven, so you really have to back it up with credible evidence or else it remains so.

So sweet that some people are still so trusting of the process of power.

Malcolm John Wrote:...though they were prepared to if they had to...

So they did.

Unlike elections...?

Malcolm John Wrote:...and to fix that you'd have to corrupt an outside agent...

Yes indeed.

For some money isn't the only motivation. Family welfare and good health and a happy trouble free retirement and old age are also highly valued.

Just the EPL? What is so special about England?

Why are you deliberately patronising me? I'm fairly sure thats actually against the forum rules that I just signed up to and which apply to you as well. I await your apology. And who said I trust the source of power anyway did I say that? Show me where I said that lets see a quote. I actually live in Scotland and believe the result as it generally reflects the opinions you hear when walking about Scotland talking to other human beings, I didn't say anything about trusting anything, and you're owed me an apology for taking such a condescending, patronising tone.

No, they didn't have to.

Yes, completely unlike elections, there aren't millions of people watching the count are there?

All of which you get by being a Premiership footballer anyway.

Did I say there was anything special about England? We are talking about the English Premier League thats not a country is it? Football is by far the biggest sport on the planet, that is by far the biggest league in football, match fixing in that league would be by far the most difficult of any league in the world to achieve. I don't think you know anything about football, so maybe best stick to threads where do you have knowledge you can contribue.

You're just defending your buddy by blindly attacking me even though you have no ammunition to do so, thats definitely against the rules and detracts from reasoned, intelligent debate. You're owed me an apology. I expect instead of that you will demonstrate your integrity and intellectual rigour by banning me for pointing out what a hypocrite you are, such is life people are very fallible and imperfect beings.

On a related matter, in Richard Cottrell's book on Gladio, he argues that the football riot in Belgium in 1985 was deliberately instigated by authorities bringing in neo-Nazis. Anyone know more about that?

Can't say I do, but it is an incident that has been thoroughly pored over for decades, I've never heard any mention of that, the fans in question say the Juventus fans were goading them, which was common, they charged a wall seperating the two and it collapsed and thats what caused most of the deaths. I've never heard any mention of neo-nazis.

I don't know about this event but did note that today, coincidentally, there was plenty in the Spanish media about the use of fascists in one of the Spainish lubs (Real Madrid? not sure didn't quite get the name) There was some discussion about the strong impression that there was disinterest in dealing with them in any meaningful way. Images of Franco adorning the stadium. No one interested in removing them. Highly inflammatory.

Not that I should speak to you when you are still owed me an apology that obviously won't be forthcoming, but that would be Real Madrid almost certainly, Franco was a patron of theirs the whole time he was in power, if you are interested google Alfredo Di Stefano that is a player Franco arranged would be transferred to them when he had already signed for their rivals Barcelona.

Today the Spanish government still gives state support to Real Madrid, they were involved in a shady deal a few years ago where their training ground was purchased by the government for a ridiculously high amount way more than it was worth.

The shadow is a moral problem that challenges the whole ego-personality, for no one can become conscious of the shadow without considerable moral effort. To become conscious of it involves recognizing the dark aspects of the personality as present and real. This act is the essential condition for any kind of self-knowledge.
