US spy chiefs have been accused of building an £800million cyber base to keep tabs on American citizens.
The state-of-the-art data centre in the Utah desert codenamed Bumblehive is intended to bolster online security efforts.
But former employees say it could be used to monitor people's private emails.
The US National Security Agency, the secretive body that serves the military and intelligence communities, denied the claims. It said: Many unfounded allegations have been made about the planned activities of the Utah Data Centre.

One of the biggest misconceptions about NSA is that we are unlawfully listening in on, or reading emails of, US citizens. This is simply not the case.'
Fox News aired a television report about the 1million-sq/ft facility on Friday in which former NSA employees raised concerns that the facility would be used to monitor the emails of U.S. citizens.
'Many unfounded allegations have been made about the planned activities of the Utah Data Center,' the NSA said in a statement.
It added that 'one of the biggest misconceptions about NSA is that we are unlawfully listening in on, or reading emails of, U.S. citizens. This is simply not the case.'
The NSA said it remained 'unwavering' in its respect for U.S. laws and American citizens' civil liberties, and noted that it was subject to broad oversight by all three branches of government.

What a cute name....the busy little bees busy spying on all of our electronic communications. That is one large building....could store one hell of a lot of data and computers!!! Size of the parking lot will tell how many employees, but I'd suspect rather a few more than that area now has. Choosing a Mormon area for this in itself is interesting - as they are believed to be very low security risks, as their religion names the USA as the promised land [literally].

Mormans also have higher foreign language skills than the average American population, by far [due to their two year missionary program].

Peter,
Mormons have had an Oath of Vengeance against the American people as part of their religious practice. It is claimed they no longer used it after 1927. Their
Promised Land was Utah, not the Unitsd States,
Oath of Vengeance
"You and each of you do covenant and promise that you will pray and never cease to pray to Almighty God to avenge the blood of the prophets upon this nation, and that you will teach the same to your children and to your children's children unto the third and fourth generation."

The 1857 massacre referred to occurred in southern Utah Territory when the Mormons attacked the Baker-Fancher wagon train of American emigrants from Arkansas who were traveling to the West. About 150 people were killed by guns and knives, and 17 were injured. One group of Mormons called themselves the Nauvoo Legion, after the site where Joseph Smith and Hyrum Smith (the Prophets) had been killed.

Yes, Utah and especially SLC was 'Mecca' to the Mormons, but it was my impression that they believed the entire USA to be God's chosen country. Brigham Young, I believe, had his 'vision and talk with God' in New York - and from there headed West, killing lots of Native Americans along the way. This Oath of Vengeance you mention is new to me...and interesting. Their entire 'religion' is full of very strange things and it often changes publicly, while retaining many of the 'rejected/changed' elements privately. I remember when I lived in San Diego and right along the main N/S highway a HUGE Mormon temple was under construction. For a very few days the public were allowed in the main upstairs rooms - the secret rooms downstairs were NOT open. After it was consecrated, as with all Mormon Temples, NO non-Mormon is allowed to enter! They are disproportionately used by US Intelligence agencies...which says it all.

Peter,
If you have the time, read Webster Tarpley's book JUST TOO WEIRD. There's a lot of information about the Mormon religion in it. It was written about Mitt Romney (a Bishop of the Mormon clerical hierarchy) and his politics and business practices, but there is also a lot of history of the Mormon religion and people. They have been raised to be outsiders, and as we saw in the last presidential campaign, there was an underlying desire to harm the American people, their jobs, and their democratic government. It wasn't only the Tea Party and the rich conservatives, but listen to some of Romney's speeches.... Remember when Romney said the car companies should be let go to bankruptcy, meaning the car workers would lose their jobs? And "damn the 47 percent", or words to that effect? He would have destroyed this country.
BTW, did you know that his wife's parents were not allowed into the Mormon Temple to witness the wedding when Mitt and his wife Ann were married? Her parents were not Mormons, nor was she until she was converted
I don't believe all Mormons are as unpatriotic as the Romney family. Many are poor and hardworking people who find some comfort in their religion and in their communities. Some, like Senator Harry Reid, are good politiicans who respect the Constitution and the separation of Church and State. I have met many Mormons here in Texas and I find them to be sincere and honest people like most other people. I have a cousin who is a Mormon, converted from Lutheranism; and she is the only Mormon in my family (besides her children and grandchildren). Among my other relatives I have found a Russan Orthodox Catholic believer, lots of Lutherans, there is one of Jewish faith, a Roman Catholic, too, and a few atheists, So we all have to be tolerant of each other.

Adele, doesn't that amount to a clear statement of treachery? I'm astonished the practise still continues. How could a Mormon run for the presidency if he took that oath? I'm gob-smacked.
The shadow is a moral problem that challenges the whole ego-personality, for no one can become conscious of the shadow without considerable moral effort. To become conscious of it involves recognizing the dark aspects of the personality as present and real. This act is the essential condition for any kind of self-knowledge. Carl Jung - Aion (1951).
