The 'success' capturing on video the 'bombers' in Boston [ha!] will soon make every major US city equal or 'better' than London vis-a-vis surveillance cameras! I think that was one of its aims - along with getting folks used to tanks and troops driving up to their homes; roughly pushing them out of their houses without a warrant and searching them....and just general terror and police state tactics. The entire surveillance state is anathema to democracy and the freedom to privacy; the larger question is who will watch the 'watchers'?! :joystick:

Video surveillance doesn't stop crime. At best it just records it. But if the policies had not been all about destroying communities and the replacement of humans with machines in the pursuit of profit there would be much more real safety and knowledge of what is going on.

As for Boston I'm still waiting for that video evidence....that no one seems to have seen.

"He would, wouldn't he?" Mandy Rice-Davies. When asked in court whether she knew that Lord Astor had denied having sex with her.

Ha! I trust no one....

We had a disappearance of a woman in Melbourne here late lsat year. They were using the shops cctv recording to trace her last movements. There is quite a collection of films there:

I hope it plays for people outside of Australia. It is quite an eyeopener in terms of how much was captured. Not just shop lifters and theiving shop assasstants.

They also have one of the perpetrator:

Then there is this:
Quote:As they seized all available CCTV footage along the route, they tracked Jill's phone and found it had remained in Brunswick until 4.24am.It then moved along CityLink in the vicinity of Moreland Rd at 4.40am and north along the Calder Freeway to Sunbury.
CityLink records provided details of all the vehicles that had passed under the Moreland Rd gantry, leading police to Bayley and his white Holden Astra.
Bayley's mobile had left an identical pre-dawn trail.

People are crying out for more surveillance now. So that when the next Jill Meagher is disappeared we can find her body too. But it prevents nothing. Money would be better spent educating men to treat women as fellow human beings.

Ah, but you see, surveillance is not there to stop crime - or even solve it, but rather is in place to intimidate and stop citizens insisting on their democratic rights being upheld.

But then we already know this don't we...

The shadow is a moral problem that challenges the whole ego-personality, for no one can become conscious of the shadow without considerable moral effort. To become conscious of it involves recognizing the dark aspects of the personality as present and real. This act is the essential condition for any kind of self-knowledge.

David,

I think that might have been Alex Jones narrating a very inspirational message at the end of that video.
Am I right?

I'm not sure Adele, but it sounded like his voice to me too.

In my Child Protective Services practice all the parents are given (free) classes in protective parenting, anger management, domestic violence, etc.. I have been wishing for a very long time that these classes would be given in junior high. Stop the problem early. But "educators" somehow feel that geography and other useless topics remain the norm.
