Ebola - The New Pandemic - Coming to someplace near you soon?!
#21
Magda Hassan Wrote:Cuba sends medical teams to any crisis where they can be of use as long as the country is happy to receive them. And where ever they go there is a group of Americans government people and presumably CIA types to try and bribe them to come to live in the US. When the Cubans were in Pakistan a few years ago after the major earthquake the US was offering $100,000 and a car. Which might seem like a large amount of money at first glance but would go pretty quickly when housing is paid for and health insurance and the high cost of living in the US generally. Speaking to Cuban people who have made the mistake of going to the US they have not ended up in the good jobs they were told they would get. Mostly janitor type jobs. They are threatened by the Cuban mafia there if they start complaining. It is a tactic of the US to debase and undermine the social, cultural and educational resources of Cuba. Fortunately most are highly committed professionals and don't fall for it. They certainly don't need the military base to work from like the US seems to. They live in the same conditions as the people. Usually tents or what ever is available. They are very resourceful. They offered and were on standby to help when Katrina happened but were told their services were not needed.

What can Cuba expect? They wouldn't let the Mafia take over their island. Damn fools. Then they allowed "Reds" under their beds, and let them set up missiles aimed at America. And the US quite rightly wouldn't allow itself to be treated in the same way it treated Russia (by encircling it), so it had to threaten a nuclear world war to force the Soviets to withdraw, and then allow the US to impoverish the island for the foreseeable future as a wholly justified punishment.

If only they had allowed themselves to be subjugated, raped and turned into casino slaves, none of this would have happened -- and the American Mafia would've prospered as planned. Sheesh!
The shadow is a moral problem that challenges the whole ego-personality, for no one can become conscious of the shadow without considerable moral effort. To become conscious of it involves recognizing the dark aspects of the personality as present and real. This act is the essential condition for any kind of self-knowledge.

Various international health agencies have predicted that without EXTREME and IMMEDIATE efforts from the wealthy nations, it should be expected that up to one MILLION Africans will soon die of Ebola! This is NOT acceptable, and shows the racism and classism of the World.

Ebola comes to Spain and the USA - its spreading, just as one would expect......to date between 3-6.000 have died....expect these numbers to take an rocket-like rise, starting in W. Africa, spreading everywhere - unless EXTREME measures are not taken NOW in W. Africa! [the epicenter of this epidemic]

I'm curious to know if the man from Africa who went to the US paid for his own ticket? Or if some one paid to send him to the US. It seems he knew he was sick and wanted to get to the US for treatment. Can't blame him of course.

Are you suggesting the inoculation of the country with the virus?

No. I was reminded of the underpants bomber who was put on a plane with assistance from some as yet unknown person. Just trying to work out if the sick man is just a desperate individual with funds to travel and able to get quick visa or being sent to the US by others and wonder who would they be.

If I am wondering who they would be, I would also wonder why.

While he was Liberian, I get the impression he had lived in the US before or was living here when he went this time to Liberia. He was not just a Liberian, with no relationship to the USA, who suddenly was here. That said, the way he was [mis]treated at the hospital the first time is a horrible shame and shows the vulnerabilities and inadequacies here, not just in developing nations vis-a-vis health care systems able to deal with such diseases. In case you don't know, he self-admitted to hospital and told them he felt very ill and had just returned from Africa. A nurse suspected Ebola as one of the possibilities and noted it in the computer...however NO doctor read that note and he was given antibiotics and send home. Much more ill he returned to the hospital in an ambulance, unable to even walk. This time they knew it was Ebola and have isolated him - but so many in the hospital and out were possibly infected due to stupid medical practice.

Yes, I heard he had a son there but he hadn't seen him in 16 years. He was also supposed to marry the mother of his American son who was also Liberian but residing in the US. How long that had been in the pipe works or if very recent and spontaneous not sure. Long time employers were not notified of end of employment and new American life.

Yes, seems to be inadequate management at the hospital when he first presented. He was clearly upfront about it all and seeking treatment but it went right over their heads.

The epidemic is just a week or two from breaking out of W. Africa and into the World population, at large...when it does all bets are off for something less than another World Plague and mass die-off. I simply can't believe that more funds and resources have not been put toward dealing with this most deadly of diseases. Globalization works both ways in this interconnected World.

4 500 have been recorded as having died; it is assumed the actual number is close to twice that. The first case that was contracted in Europe has now happened and one contracted in the USA, as well. Whether a natural virus gone 'viral' or a bioweapon doesn't matter at this point - HUGE efforts must be made or it will be similar to the Plagues of the Middle Ages.
