Orwell and Samsung - Smart TV's now listen to your every word, and share them
#11
Samsung seems to have other problems as well, how would you like to have your own DVD or recorded video interrupted by some stupid advertisement, coming from your Samsung TV?

The most relevant literature regarding what happened since September 11, 2001 is George Orwell's "1984".

Oh so glad I don't and wont use this technology. When my tv needed to be replaced I just a plain old dumb one. I can use a cable to connect a computer to it and watch what I like. Simple.

I won't be upgrading to smart tv's either. And I absolutely detest adverts anyway. But if I had ads pop up when I'm running a dvd, I think I really would go apeshit.
The shadow is a moral problem that challenges the whole ego-personality, for no one can become conscious of the shadow without considerable moral effort. To become conscious of it involves recognizing the dark aspects of the personality as present and real. This act is the essential condition for any kind of self-knowledge.

When they brought pay tv to Australia they went door to door signing people up. Their big selling point, apart from the extra channels, was that they didn't have ads. That's why one paid for it to not have ads. I signed up and for a couple of years it was fine but then they brought in ads. Many of the sleazy ads "Call me, call me any time..." sex ads as well as the usual cavalcade of crap consumer products. Fuck that. Told foxtel to go shove their ad infested service where the sun does not shine as I can get one for absolutely free. Then along came a pirate and it was sailing the seven seas and a lot of yo ho ho .

I can't talk authoritatively about pirates like Popcorn Time and XBMC, but I know people who rarely watch anything else these days - and miss nothing. Not a thing. Indeed, it is my clear understanding that if a programme is aired on tv last night, it's up and running within hours, certainly by the next morning via these platforms for free. And further, these platforms are months ahead of Sky, terrestrial tv and others like Apple films etc in offering high definition movies - again for free. I further believe that any and adverts and promo's are automatically excised from all these offerings and one is not bombarded with this sort of crap ever.

It's a wonder anyone watches anything else these days...

For me it was an interesting thing here in the UK that whilst the Hollywood moguls tried their hardest to criminalize pirate services, in the end they couldn't. They were completely opposed by all the ISP's and copyright law itself. In the end a fudge was arrived at by the government who informally agreed with the top 6 ISP's who agreed to send out "naughty" letters, up to three times to their customers who stream pirate content - but after that nothing, nada, zilch, zero.

But I don't want Samsung imposing their adverts through their tv's that I've bought and paid for. They can fuck off on that. And any other manufacturer too.

PS, that would be Popcorn-Time 0.3.7.1 and XBMC now Kodi

Ah.....this all was true and I hope will be true again; but!, as of now that Pirate ship is sunk at the bottom of the ocean due to pressure from governments and legal entities worldwide. Every now and again for a short time an OLD copy is revived - but with nothing new. Last I looked, all were down and only hoax sites to trap you into thinking it was the old ship were there.....shades of the future?! ::darthvader::

You don't know what I know and mean to say. Whichever part you doubt, I do not. Speak for yourself - not for me.

Pirate Bay is up today. In any case it has moved on from there, as David points out, and there is no getting the genie back in the bottle with out banning the Internet altogether and they are not going to do that as it is their vehicle for their products too.
