CIA world literature: a survey
http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/soc/pais/r.../timeline/
There is a remarkable world literature on the CIA. Each region of the world grew its own literature on this subject and this was especially true of the global south, with South Asia and South America producing many books. Between 1953 and 1973 there were somewhere over thirty books with a strong CIA focus and two of these were in published in Bengali. The first book on the Bay of Pigs was published in Italian. The countries of the Soviet Bloc and communist parties around the world vied with each other to produce propagandistic works on the CIA. The first book to discuss the activities of the CIA was probably Natarajan's American Shadow Over India, published in 1952, which discusses America's policy towards Communist China, Tibet and Taiwan. The first book on the CIA was Gordon Neil Stewart's Cloak and Dollar War, published in October 1953, appearing only six years after the formation of the Agency. Stewart was a left-wing Australian journalist who was placed under ASIO surveillance.
This timeline begins to construct a global picture of CIA literature, but as yet it remains incomplete.
