I should post another one of La Negra Tomasa as the Columbian Spanish sounds so different to the Cuban Spanish. I will hunt around.

Such fun! I'll make a great list here. I'm fortunate to listen to this very often. Know lots of Cubans and musicians. Always a great time.

They make them to last in Cuba. Fidel has created a project called the 120 year club. To support the longevity and quality of human life for all not just the wealthy.

This is the original musician who wrote the song which has been covered by hundreds of others now. It was written before Che went to Angola. It was a reply to Che's farewell letter when left Cuba for Angola. After his death it became iconic.

My old man travelled to Havana a number of times in the 1950's during the time of Batista and the mob. I have a few stories, including the snakepit (I think it was called anyway), that was featured in one of the Godfather films...
:hock:: And here I was thinking your old man was a respectable medico quietly plying his trade in the midlands. I have a whole new view of your Guyatt ancestors now. Tell me more!
: : You're thinking of my grandfather who was an eye surgeon at Moorfields. He was the one who helped Jews escape Berlin and Vienna 1938/9. It now looks like he was heavily involved in the Kindertransport - although I'm still trying to track this down in fine detail.
My old man was a "snaps" - a photographer. Firstly in the RN Fleet Air Arm, and then after the war he plied his trade on the luxury boats of his era (QE, Queen Mary, Mauretania etc) in 1st Class (nice work if you can get it, I guess) snapping the rich and famous for a news agency. I still have some of the photos he took - Hollywood stars, heads of state, royalty etc - although sadly hundreds of others were thrown away when they moved later in life.
PS, love some of those clips you posted...
The shadow is a moral problem that challenges the whole ego-personality, for no one can become conscious of the shadow without considerable moral effort. To become conscious of it involves recognizing the dark aspects of the personality as present and real. This act is the essential condition for any kind of self-knowledge. Carl Jung - Aion (1951).
