The British government just voted in a big brother bill allowing the government to hack any internet account.

The USG did that secretly LONG ago.....
This has more to do with the non-governmental hacking and then selling or abuse of your passwords, CC data, other personal data, etc.
When I entered my email addresses and login names I could remember, a few were hard to believe - others were groups I had at one time [sometimes many years ago] used just once. It shows the problem with using the same password again. It really shows the problem with any privacy or security on the internet. If the NSA is not spying on us, then the hackers are taking our data and selling it or giving it away for others to use to potentially harm us. The have a service to be notified by email if and when that email address is breached again, and they allow website/forum administrators {with proof they are such} to check the integrity of all accounts on their site. It is a helpful, if depressing, service.
