Barack Obama has won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize????
#1
By golly, it must have been a bloody quiet year for decent nominations for this useless git to come out on top. :dontknow: Spread war all over central Asia and get a peace prize? Back the war criminal in the ME? War is Peace these days I suppose.

US President Barack Obama has won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize.
The Nobel Committee said he was awarded it for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and co-operation between peoples".
The committee highlighted Mr Obama's efforts to strengthen international bodies and promote nuclear disarmament.
There were a record 205 nominations for this year's prize. Zimbabwe's prime minister and a Chinese dissident had been among the favourites.
The laureate - chosen by a five-member committee - wins a gold medal, a diploma and 10m Swedish kronor ($1.4m).

Should Obama have won?

"Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future," the Norwegian committee said as the prize was announced.
"His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population."
Asked why the prize had been awarded to Mr Obama less than a year after he took office, Nobel committee head Thorbjoern Jagland said: "It was because we would like to support what he is trying to achieve".
"It is a clear signal that we want to advocate the same as he has done," he said.
He specifically mentioned Mr Obama's work to strengthen international institutions and work towards a world free of nuclear arms.
"The philosophers have only interpreted the world, in various ways. The point, however, is to change it." Karl Marx

"He would, wouldn't he?" Mandy Rice-Davies. When asked in court whether she knew that Lord Astor had denied having sex with her.

“I think it would be a good idea” Ghandi, when asked about Western Civilisation.

I find this near infinitely depressing.

Leaving aside the fact that he has been in office less than a year and has actually achieved close to zero by way of concrete contributions to 'world peace' - quite the contrary in fact, on any reasonable examination of the facts - it is the fawning nature of the awards process itself. As if the President of the worlds dominant arms manufacturer/exporter and wager of war on any country that fails to see things the US way or any so-called 'insurgency' against those bribed, cajoled, or threatened into doing so, actually NEEDS another $1.4 million plus a diploma and gold medal.

This from the BBC:

Inside the first year of the First Term too.

It sucks don't it.
The shadow is a moral problem that challenges the whole ego-personality, for no one can become conscious of the shadow without considerable moral effort. To become conscious of it involves recognizing the dark aspects of the personality as present and real. This act is the essential condition for any kind of self-knowledge.

Alice
If it had grown up, it would have made a dreadfully ugly child; but it makes rather a handsome pig, I think.

The Cat
We're all mad here.

The Hatter
Why is a raven like a writing desk?

The Hatter
Twinkle, twinkle, little bat! How I wonder what you're at.

The Queen
Off with her head!

The Duchess
Tut, tut, child! Everything's got a moral, if only you can find it.

The Duchess
Take care of the sense, and the sounds will take care of themselves.

The Mock Turtle
We called him Tortoise because he taught us.

The Mock Turtle
Reeling and Writhing, of course, to begin with, and then the different branches of arithmetic -- Ambition, Distraction, Uglification, and Derision.

The Mock Turtle
Well, I never heard it before, but it sounds uncommon nonsense.

The King
Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop.

Alice
I don't believe there's an atom of meaning in it.

The Queen
Sentence first -- verdict afterwards.

Alice
You're nothing but a pack of cards!

Alice
But then, shall I never get any older than I am now? That'll be a comfort, one way -- never to be an old woman -- but then -- always to have lessons to learn!

Alice
A cat may look at a king. I've read that in some book, but I don't remember where.

Alice
I think I should understand that better, if I had it written down: but I can't quite follow it as you say it.

The Duchess
That's nothing to what I could say if I chose.

The Queen
Now, I give you fair warning, either you or your head must be off, and that in about half no time! Take your choice!

Alice
If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?

Alice
It would be so nice if something made sense for a change.

Thanks for that Jack. I enjoy Carroll a lot although I haven't read him for decades and decades.

That which is not, is also that which is - is a most meaningful paradox. These apparent ramblings of Carroll are equally suited to the Borderlands and Alchemy folder in a discussion on the transformative meaning of the Lapis Exilis and the Lapis Philosophorum.

In reply to a comment of mine on Craig Murray's blog, it was suggested that hilarity was a more appropriate response to this award. I would agree whole-heartedly were it not for the gravity of the Orwellian Milieu it illustrates.

We are about to be treated to a blizzard of pseudo-analytical drivel from the MSM parroting the likes of NATO's Rasmussen per the title of this post based on his "statement following the award":
Quote: I warmly congratulate President Obama on winning the Nobel Peace Prize. As the Nobel Committee said, President Obama has made extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.
He has also demonstrated his strong commitment to help build peace and defend fundamental human rights, including through the Atlantic Alliance. This honour is well deserved.
I try hard to summon up humour (especially satire) which is one way of dealing with the grossly Orwellian world we now inhabit, but when you have young grandchildren, it is simply impossible to ignore dark forebodings about the world they are inheriting.

I used to have respect for the Nobel Peace Prize. This disgrace put an end to that.

The Nobel Committee has, however, made it very clear that the award is intended to nudge Obama forward. While I'm puzzled by the logic of giving awards for future "accomplishments" (if they'll give me the Wimbledon trophy I promise I'll learn tennis) I suppose it's possible that it could be a useful tool to shame Obama when he inevitably does nothing good. Is it possible that the Nobel Committee is intending to use this as leverage of that kind? If so is the strategy clever or inane?

Whatever. I'm tired of living in bizarro world.

They should have been more open about it and called it:

The Nobel Prize is an award granted by merchants of death posturing as philanthropists.

The crocodile tears -whether real or feigned - of those who create weapons of destruction are of no import.

In 1976, Shock Therapist Milton Friedman was awarded the Nobel Laureate in Economics for "his achievements in the fields of consumption analysis, monetary history and theory and for his demonstration of the complexity of stabilization policy".

Stabilization policy = the rape of the world's poor and the plundering of the natural resources and infrastructure of countries across the globe by multinational crooks.

Friedman's prize came three years after Paperclip's very own, war criminal Henry Kissinger, had been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, thus rendering political satire obsolete.

Nobel Prizes have never had any real credibility; certainly not to anyone prepared to spend a couple of nanoseconds looking into the Nobel family, or the rollcall of winners.

However, this particular award is intriguing. For its timing.

It's obvious that Obama has done nothing, nada, sweet fuck all, to deserve a peace prize.

However, in MSM Constructed Consensus Land a Nobel Peace Prize does mean and resonate.

It marks Obama as a peacemaker. It brands his court as a new Camelot.

Brand in its core meaning of a permanent mark seared into the flesh of Their property, and its new C21st meaning:

Quote:The experiential aspect consists of the sum of all points of contact with the brand and is known as the brand experience. The psychological aspect, sometimes referred to as the brand image, is a symbolic construct created within the minds of people and consists of all the information and expectations associated with a product or service.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brand

I find this award ominous.

Their carefully constructed Brand Obama, representing Peace and Hope and Innocence and Tolerance, may be heading for Crossfire.

A new Shock and Awe, a Primetime Trauma, delivered directly to the Preterite with a Faux News commentary.
"It means this War was never political at all, the politics was all theatre, all just to keep the people distracted...."

"They are in Love. Fuck the War."
