Lib of Congress Country Studies page
#1
The US Library of Congress has maintained an internet page dedicated to Country Studies. The list of countries is not complete at all and seems to reflect certain US priorities from maybe 1995 or so, when the page appeared. It's also not pure scholarship, but it can be used to get a quick, "thumbnail" overview of certain places. It's also not all that easy to stumble across, so here it is:

Thanks for this Helen. It is always valuable to have these useful resources especially the hard to locate ones.
"The philosophers have only interpreted the world, in various ways. The point, however, is to change it." Karl Marx

"He would, wouldn't he?" Mandy Rice-Davies. When asked in court whether she knew that Lord Astor had denied having sex with her.

“I think it would be a good idea” Ghandi, when asked about Western Civilisation.
