Albright singles out 1999 among achievements

MOSCOW: Former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright thinks that her greatest achievement in her term was “stopping the ethnic cleansing in Kosovo.”

In the spring of 1999, NATO conducted attacks against Serbia for 78 days over the conflict in Kosovo.

“If you wish to know what I think is the most important thing I accomplished as U.S. secretary of state, I think it is stopping of the ethnic cleansing in Kosovo,” Albright said, answering to a student’s question at the Russian State Institute for Foreign Relations.

However, Russian news agencies reported that the former U.S. secretary of state initially made a slip of the tongue, when she said that her achievement was “conducting the ethnic cleansing in Kosovo” instead of “stopping it”.

This, according to reports, provoked reactions in the hall, and the statement was quickly corrected.

“We wanted to solve the situation by diplomatic means and under UN patronage, we reviewed the issue with the Russian colleagues. Eventually, we turned to NATO, carried out a successful operation and the people in Kosovo are living freely now,” Albright was quoted as saying.

The U.S. secretary of state said that she was particularly pleased to learn that “many newborn girls" were named after her, in the wake of NATO’s "military operation in Kosovo”.

At the same time Albright noted that “NATO’s decision had not been approved by everybody and that, among other things, it had not been satisfactory for Russia”.

Albright is visiting Moscow as the leader of the NATO Group of Wise Men. The group arrived in Moscow on Tuesday with an aim to discuss NATO strategy with Russian officials.

On February 10 and 11, the 12 NATO representatives and their leader will hold talks with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and the leadership of the Russian Security Council, and meet with State Duma deputies, scientists and experts, Russia Today reported.

Whoops-a-daisy.
The shadow is a moral problem that challenges the whole ego-personality, for no one can become conscious of the shadow without considerable moral effort. To become conscious of it involves recognizing the dark aspects of the personality as present and real. This act is the essential condition for any kind of self-knowledge.
