Entire February 2010 Issue of the American Behavioral Scientist Devoted to State Crimes Against Democracy:
— Elizabeth Woodworth, Professional Librarian

Editor's Note: Our cause might be better served by supporting the publishers.

Elizabeth Woodworth offers this:

"It's now confirmed that the February edition is available in print, and can be ordered for $24 for the whole issue.

Contact SAGE Journals Customer Service department via e-mail at journals@sagepub.com or phone 1-800-818-7243 then hit #2, then #0 for operator, then ask for "Journals", and they will mail a copy.

Otherwise individual papers cost $25 to be viewed for one day, on the journal's website, and cannot be downloaded from it. (Because the pdf could be freely circulated if it were downloadable)."

For 50 years the American Behavioral Scientist has been a leading source of behavioral research for the academic world. Its influence is shown by the fact that it is indexed by an extraordinary 67 major database services, causing its papers to be widely exposed on the international scene.

The publisher, Sage, is headquartered in Los Angeles, with offices in London, New Delhi, Singapore, and Washington DC.

Each issue offers comprehensive analysis of a single topic.

The six papers in the February 2010 issue are devoted to the recent concept of "State Crimes Against Democracy (SCAD's)," with emphasis on 9/11 and on how human behavior has failed to recognize its reality. [Ref. abs.sagepub.com/content/vol53/issue6]

What are SCAD's?

SCADs differ from earlier forms of political corruption in that they frequently involve political, military, and/or economic elites at the very highest levels of the social and political order," explains one essay.

"Negative information actions" are defined by another as "willful and deliberate acts designed to keep government information from those in government and the public entitled to it. Negative information actions subvert the rule of law and the constitutional checks and balances."

One paper shows that "preexisting beliefs can interfere with people's examination of evidence for state crimes against democracy (SCADs), specifically in relation to the events of September 11, 2001, and the war on terror in Afghanistan and Iraq."

Another refers to TV's "popular culture passion plays" as "displacing interrogation of real-event anomalies, as with the porous account given by the 9/11 Commission for what happened that fateful day."

And another deals with "the actual destruction of sovereignty and democratic values under the onslaught of antiterrorism hubris, propaganda, and fear," in response to 9/11, asking whether the Patriot Acts of 2001 and 2006 are themselves state crimes against democracy.

The papers extensively quote the independent academic researchers who have been studying the 9/11 problem for years, including Dr. David Ray Griffin; Dr. Niels Harrit, Dr. Steven Jones, Chemist Kevin Ryan, and the rest of the team that studied nanothermite in the World Trade Center dust; and Dr. Peter Dale Scott, Dr. Michel Chossudovsky, Barrie Zwicker, Dr. Nafeez Ahmed, and The Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein.

While not familiar with this Journal, I'd say that means the truth about 9-11 is going mainstream in the academic community...if slowly. They are discussing not only the real facts, but the psychological implications, and about the mechanisms of denial et al. I'd say a minor victory. Sadly, this obviously has a small circulation and protects its contents carefully from dissemination, but it might just spread like anthrax! Confusedhot:

It will cover the whole shebang really, not just 911 but deals with the reality of crimes of state as a whole. It is a start at least and as you say has the potential to go viral.

Sage Publications is, in my estimation, a publisher of highly-respected journals and other compendiums. I fully intend to buy a copy as soon as I can make the phone call. My own personal experience was with an old bound red book of publications by a variety of academicians and practitioners on the art and science of using simulation games as a teaching tool; it was produced in conjunction with the North American Simulation and Gaming Association. It was superb, in-depth, allowed me to appreciate the hobby, introduced me to Thiagi's works (I later beta-tested a game designed by someone who had collaborated with him), enabled me to write several serious articles and proposals, and gave me a thorough preparation for deeper training methods, and enabled me to understand player interaction within a serious simulation training system more intimately. The book was well-used, dog-eared and would still be a treasured resource today if I had not lost it to water damage in a cellar flood.

From WikiPedia:

"SAGE is an independent for-profit academic publisher of books, journals, and electronic products in the humanities, social sciences and scientific, technical and medical fields. SAGE was founded in 1965 by George McCune and Sara Miller McCune. The company is headquartered in Los Angeles, with offices in London, New Delhi, Singapore, and Washington DC. Blaise R. Simqu is currently SAGE's President and Chief Executive Officer."

"Sara Miller McCune (born 1941) is a philanthropist and the co-founder and Chair of SAGE Publications.
Sara founded SAGE with her late husband George McCune in 1965[1] (SAGE stands for SA – from Sara – and GE – from George)[2] and the company has since grown to become one of the world’s leading independent academic publishers.[3]
Sara Miller McCune has in recent years turned her attention to philanthropy and she funds schools in the developing world[4] as well as community organizations and educational establishments in California. Notable recent donations include $2.5 million to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital [5], $3.5 million to found the SAGE Center For the Study of the Mind at UCSB[6][7] and upwards of $5 million to the Granada Theater Restoration Project.[8]
Sara Miller McCune is a trustee and supporter of the UCSB foundation[7] and is on the Board of Directors of The American Academy of Political and Social Science.[9]
Sara founded the charitable McCune Foundation in 1990.[10]
In 2003, Sara received the Spirit of Entrepreneurship award at the Entrepreneur of the Year awards, sponsored by Ernst and Young.[11]
In 2008, Sara announced the launch of Miller-McCune magazine, published in print and online, by the nonprofit Miller McCune Center for Research, Media and Public Policy, with support from SAGE.[12]
Women’s Campaign International (WCI) recently honored Sara Miller McCune at an event entitled Shattering The Glass Ceiling: Honoring Inspirational Women Around The Globe. Other honorees at the same event included Hillary Rodham Clinton and the President of Liberia.[13]"

That an academic publisher devoted an entire issue to the psychological/sociological and actual facts about 9-11 is no small matter....dare we hope?! Time is SO very short and I had all but lost hope...

As noted elsewhere, I bought the publication, and it is worth the price of admission. I hope to inveigle the authors to become members at DPF. When I have fully digested it, I will write more in detail.

Please do. I think it very interesting to hear some other fresh voices and thoughts on the subject - and you might ask them or decide if short significant passages of their articles are not possible to post here under 'fair usage' for educational purposes.

The fact that most suspect [but few think they can prove] that the official version is bull**** from A to beyond Z always amazes me. It is the 'officials' spouting the lies who need to be on the defensive and having to 'prove' or admit a hoax THEIR 911 CONSPIRACY THEORY!

Rest assured that I will report back. It was my assumption that I could quote, within reason, under the rules you noted. That said, the booklet of academic articles is dense and rich like a fruitcake (and with equivalent shelf life); I wish to take care to do it justice. I am into the fourth article now, and my impression is that there are chunks, or quotes, or passages, upon which a small band of good 'deep politics' writers and commentators could riff like a jazz quintet. Be patient, and I will lay down some chord progressions for us all.
