For the past 48 hours select material posted to the Stop NATO email list has not been allowed to go through to subscribers or to enter the archives.
This may be a problem with Yahoo Groups in general (much like language encoding problems in the archives and on occasion with the daily digest since February of 2009), but in view of recent correspondence received from Yahoo it may signal something else.
On August 19, 2010 the Stop NATO moderator received an email from the Military Times group (Army Times, Navy Times, Air Force Times, Marine Corps
Times, Defense News, Federal Times, Armed Forces Journal, Training &
Simulation Journal and C4ISR Journal) demanding that he immediately delete a news item from Navy Times posted on a list in Asia that I was not familiar with or face alleged copyright infringement penalties. (Complete correspondence is included below.)
The next day I explained matters to the Military Times representative, who never responded to me although I had offered to remove the item in question from the Stop NATO archives even though I had not been asked to (see below).
Four weeks later Yahoo informed me that it had arbitrarily removed a Stop NATO posting from the archives although at no time was an attempt made to contact me about it before the action was taken.
The Yahoo email also contained a paragraph, below, that states not only can an email group be shut down but that an individual's email account(s) can be terminated for emailing copyrighted news material, although the intention in doing so is strictly informational.
As can be seen in the exchange between the Military Times person and myself that follows, Yahoo is stating that it can terminate groups and individual email accounts even if one individual emails a second and that email is forwarded to a third party and ends up in the (eminently obscure) archives of an unrelated and unfamiliar email group's archives.
Thanks to the tireless efforts of friends, Stop NATO has a back-up/alterative server that is ready to continue the list (and preserve its archives) should problems with Yahoo continue.

The news feature you mention is one of ten included in a daily digest of items I send out to a private, (unpaid) subscriber-only email list.
I credited the site, Navy Times; provided the date and the byline, July 6, 2010 by Gidget Fuentes, and even included the URL/link to the original feature.
In no manner did I misrepresent the origin, nature or ownership of the article. Moreover, at no time have I posted an Air Force/Army/Marine Corps/Navy Times item - complete or partial - on a website or even blogsite.
If I were to borrow a recording from a public library and a third party took it and, unbeknownst to me, made copies of it, I hardly see how I could be accused of copyright infringement.
If you insist, I will remove all Military Times material from the (private) archives of my own email list.
But I have some serious concerns about your indication that you might have recourse to legal action against me.
If your copyright policy was a general one, every email news list and most every independent news website in the world would be shut down. Indeed, as there is no guarantee that even material contained in a private email between two individuals can not make the rounds, ending up posted somewhere, I fear that the universal application of your policy could prevent even the passing on of a news item between two individuals - a degree of proprietry exclusiveness and de facto censorship frightening in its implications.
