'France arms sub with nuclear missiles'
France has violated international disarmament treaties by arming its latest nuclear submarine with nuclear missiles, a report says.
The French newspaper La Tribune on Friday reported that the country has secretly armed its fourth nuclear submarine, Le Terrible, with new generation nuclear missiles.
The submarine is reportedly armed with M51 missiles.
The report says France plans to arm its three other nuclear submarines with the missiles, as well.
The missile is capable of carrying nuclear warheads.

I'm only surprised to learn they had somehow signed on the dotted line to not before. Why, the UK, Israel, Russia, USA and probably China all do....as well as unknown others. Speaking of submarines, there is one company that sells FULL-SIZE submarines to rich PRIVATE persons. The BBC had a piece on this I can find. They personalize them to the owner's tastes and even train the crew to operate it. How many of these there are is a secret, as are all but one owner's name [as he died just before taking possesion of the full-size sub]. I wonder if any of these come with torpedos and/or other defensive/offensive systems....probably no treaty about them....:bandit:

I suspect it is Sarkozy and his backer's doing. He brought France back into NATO too and sold their independence. We always knew that France had nuclear bombs but they were supposed to be for the Germans (and their real enemy the Brits ecruity

France's nuclear engineers are about the best in the world - they produce most of their electric power by nukes and have had no [known] accidents. They have their own design. They have long had nukes and for submarines it only takes a little miniaturization [not hard with plutonium bombs and well known in the 'circles']. Gee, I want one too and my own sub to put it in.....:lollypop:
The USA, Russia and Israel [likely UK and others] have 'backpack nukes' which weigh only about 40-50Kg and are able to fit in a middle-sized backpack or carry-on luggage...would fit nicely in box in a container ship or be 'forgotten' in downtown China, Manhattan or Iranian nuclear facility, etc.

I do not believe that civilization will be wiped out in a war fought with the atomic bomb. Perhaps two-thirds of the people of the earth will be killed.

I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.

Is there independent corroboration for this, or other news coverage? I see none in a Google News search, but Google is not the end of the world in information access. If it is true, it does not bode well.

Thanks, Magda. And that makes sense in the context of the recent fiscal MOD issues in the UK.
