Teresa Scanlan of Nebraska, newly crowned Miss America, was asked her opinion of WikiLeaks in the final stages of the competition last night.
Here is her answer:
"You know when it came to that situation it was actually based on espionage, and when it comes to the security of our nation we have to focus on security first, and then people's right to know. Because it's so important that everyone in our borders is safe, and so we can't let things like that happen and they must be handled properly... and I think that was the case."
Interesting that they asked her about Wikileaks, rather than the expansion of the Universe or her thoughts on Dark Matter and Energy.

"Civil disobedience is not our problem. Our problem is civil obedience! People are obedient in the face of poverty, starvation, stupidity, war, and cruelty. Our problem is that grand thieves are running the country. That's our problem!" - Howard Zinn

If you are going to be honored with the right to wear the flag draped across your heaving, firm bosoms and walk down the runway in svelte, firm legs perched on heels with the tiara of American beauty on your perfectly-coiffed head, you must show that you will toe the corporate fascist line and assist in the bouncing of the propaganda and say nothing that might actually illuminate anything or embarrass anyone. They are, after all, paying handsomely for, em, bare ass.

Cut.
Sweat was beginning to form on my brow....
The shadow is a moral problem that challenges the whole ego-personality, for no one can become conscious of the shadow without considerable moral effort. To become conscious of it involves recognizing the dark aspects of the personality as present and real. This act is the essential condition for any kind of self-knowledge.

The pageant, which is distinct from the Miss USA crown, aims "to provide personal and professional opportunities for young women to promote their voices in culture, politics and the community," according to the Miss America website.

Or there's always http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3HASgMS7w0 the Stepford plan.
That's great. The Stepford Wives is a much better movie at a duration of two-and-a-half minutes. All the political insight is still present, without the tedium of the full length movie.
I could have done with a tad more Christopher Walken overacting brilliantly though! :dancingman:

Sorry. Magda, I know you wanted to make a serious point and I agree, these pageants are sexist and degrading. They are also stupid and really poke fun at the culture [or lack thereof]...take a look at this would be candidate.....who wouldn't even have gotten her Wikileaks lick down right. If they had them for young attractive men, they'd make the same stupid statements. The culture has been dumbed down to sub-Neanderthal, and sadly many with 'looks' get along without even the minimum of smarts; cause in America its all about looks and money, money and looks.....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lj3iNxZ8D...re=related [In answer to why most Americans can't find America on a World map [which is true!!]...all the other countries are for eggheads only. History is for weirdos who even read 'books'....and real [deep politics and history]....well we know how rare and endangered a species we are....:nosmilie:
