Understatement of the year!.... Realized and exceeded beyond his wildest imagination!!

In Eisenhower's speech, which I saw in the documentary Why We Fight, he says that American society will have to make trade-offs between spending money on the military and spending money on things society needs. He tells us that the more that is spent on equipment for the military the less that will be spent on things like schools and hospitals. This is happening today, state governments are being forced to lay off employees that provide services to the public instead of cutting military expenditures.
