Occupy Everywhere - Sept 17th - Day of Rage Against Wall Street and what it stands for!
Doesn't sound like it is being taken over by Obamabots. Just sounds like union solidarity to me. The more unions they can get supporting them the better for them and the unions. Fuck Obama.

Mass arrests just happened in Atlanta and larger occupation in Boston. Everyone removed. In Atlanta it was re-occupied. In Boston sanitation dept. under direction of Police put ALL tents, backpacks, cellphones, personal items, tents, etc. in garbage trucks to be destroyed! Some Vets for Peace beaten in Boston. Hear Seattle about to under mass arrests too. The 1% is afraid and tonight is the night of the long swords!....

I agree. We can call them whatever we want to call them, and some labeling might be accurate and meaningful (though I for one are hard pressed to see how). I think some of the commentary I've seen recently is right on; I see only masses of people. I think the lesson or answer in what is happening is to see if it continues to re-generate after such actions as recently noted (crackdowns, arrests, etc.). If it does, it's pure people action. Some of those people have socialist orientations; some of them are libertarian; some of them are conservatives of the original brand (not the hijacked neo-con version); some of them are TeaParty types (of both the pre-hijacked brand and the post-hijacked version). They are still people. They are people fed up for some similar, differing and over-lapping reasons, but they are still fed up, and they are still people. If this movement is generated or hijacked by forces working for the Fed, the Obama administration, big money, the Rothschilds, the banksters, it must fizzle; what is the point of protesting what is in existence, in power, if you are sent by the ones in control? If it is to appear to be a meaningful protest, that will be like sending inflatable tanks to war. If the ones in control keep sending the blue meanies and the heavy artillery, then the people will act and react.

As for fucking Obama, I am in favor and often say the same thing. But to be fair, it's not really Obama per se, it is the system that has been installed which brought us Obama. The puppet can take on many faces.

LEADERSHIP & OPEN SOURCE PROTEST #ows

Here's bit of information (unfortunately, the article is poorly written) from Fox on how Occupy Atlanta blocked a local Congressman from speaking at their general assembly. Essentially, the general assembly's rules require consensus to pass any resolution or to allow anybody to speak. Nothing else will do. So, when the Congressman (a veteran of civil rights marches and used to taking a leadership role) asked to speak, one member of the assembly crossed his arms in strenuous opposition. He didn't like the idea of people attempting to lead the movement. It worked. The Congressman was denied an opportunity to speak, and the assembly rolled on, leaderless.Rejecting LeadersFluid, constrained leadership is an important part of open source protest. Fluid in that there are no fixed positions. Contrained in that it is limited to managing a single function. There isn't any overarching leadership. So far, we've seen fluid, constrained leadership with the Occupy movement. The folks that successfully accomplished the movement's plausible promise have faded into the woodwork, as they were supposed to do. However, the movement isn't out of the woods yet: there isn't any shortage of people on the sidelines anxious to take control of the movement. Fortunately, the Occupy movement is organized in a way that makes taking control difficult. Here are some of them:
  • Consensus decision making (blocks leadership as per the above).
  • Geographic Decentralization. Not many people in any one location.
  • No hieararchy or bureaucracy. A coup d'etat requires a bureaucratic hierarchy. To sieze control, all you need to do get the bureaucracy to accept your orders. If it does, you are now in control. Occupy doesn't have a bureaucracy to sieze control of.
  • No behind the scenes space. Everything is out in the open/transparent. How do you cut a deal in a smoke filled room when there isn't one?
  • Lots more here... any more and I'd have to write a pamphlet e-book on it. ;->
Real Open Source LeadershipIt's important to understand that open source movements do have leaders. But these leaders operate differently than the leaders we are used to seeing. To understand this better, here's something that I wrote up about the Egyptian open source protest back in January. It applies to the Occupy movement as well:Open source protests are composed of people with very different views of the world brought together by a single achievable idea. In Egypt's case, that's the removal of Mubarak. Unfortunately, as a result of this diversity of views, open source protests are messy. Nobody is formally in charge. However, this DOESN'T mean they aren't any leaders in the protest. In fact, there are lots. The extent that anyone is a leader in a open protest like Egypt's is based onBig Grinoes the leader provide ways to move the protest forward, towards completing its goal?Do they provide good innovations and great examples of what to do?How closely does the leader's stay to the protest's goal? If that is what they focus on, they gain stature. IF their goals begin to grow and become more detailed (ideological), they lose support.Do leaders coach or command? If they coach, they gain support. If they command, they lose it. If they attempt to seize control, the protest will turn on them. What this means is that leaders can emerge in Egypt's protest. They offer the chance to break the stalemate brought on by Mubarak's survival strategy. So. when does an open soruce protest reject a leader? When a leader attempts to fork the protest, by trying to lead it towards an agenda or policy or politics only they care about, they should be ignored/rejected/blocked.______________________________NOTE 1: For those of you wondering how an open source protest gets started, here's a short rule book I penned back in 2008 (I should expand these rules into a 30 page pamphlet and package it as an inexpensive e-book - take a week to do). NOTE 2: Still looking for help on documenting the occupy movements methods on the MiiU wiki.

Hello world, hello protestors. This is a message from anonymous. This is a message to the 99 percent. This is a message to the American Autumn. It is clear that from the beginning of this movement we have been censored. Despite the fact that, massive demonstrations, were planning to occupy wallstreet, we were ignored in the media. Despite the fact that the protestors were flocking from every corner of the nation to join the protest they remained silent. However, the era of the internet is upon us. The power to circumvent the mass media has become trivial. You are paper tigers, and we are a scorching wildfire. The elites have been forced to recognize the movement, they have been forced to stand against us. And so began the campaign to mock us. We are dirty, homeless, unAmerican, stupid, voiceless, disorganized, violent. We are a mob, we are young, foolish, liberal, unemployed. We are leeches, parasites, anarchists, brainwashed. We are communists, dangerous, untrustworthy, rabble rousers, terrorists. However, despite the frantic and desparate moves by the elites to slander this movement, despite their vain efforts to curtail and skew our image, we have shattered through ther lies. The truth was spread, the lies were snuffed out. We will not be set aside by mere insults and disgusting propaganda. We are the people, and this is what democracy looks like. The elites now are being pushed up against the walls. They are resorting to their trump cards, and the strong arms have arrived. The camps of boston have been raided. The camps of San Francisco have been dispersed. The protests in New York have been violently curtailed and beaten. The protests in Seattle are on the verge of being raided by riot police. This is the final step in our strategy. A famous man once said that at first they will ignore you. Then they will mock you. Thirdly they will fight you. And then you win. There is nothing you can do. There are no more moves to make, this is checkmate. The game is over wall street. You fell into our trap, you repeated history. You planted the seeds for civil dissent, and now you will watch as what you reap is sowed, you will watch as the entire country blossoms and you are consumed. All the dominos are falling, and you will watch as one by one we prevail. The protestors have won. Stop your vain efforts, the wildfires are all around you. Stop preparing for revolution. Its upon you.
