MacArthur Warned Kennedy Against Viet Nam

" A great book to read from a U.S. Army Soldier's perspective that served in Vietnam, is John M.G. Brown's Rice Paddy Grunt. There are some notable things that stand out in the book. The first is John M.G. Brown's account of his Drill Sergeant calling him aside, towards the end of his Army Basic Training, and confiding to John M.G. Brown that the U.S. troop buildup in South Vietnam was NOT going to work. The second notable thing is that John M.G. Brown, in his book, gives an account of General Douglas MacArthur telling John F. Kennedy regarding South Vietnam -- "do NOT send an army in there". "



And MacArthur was the one fired by Truman for being too aggressive.

MacArthur was too aggressive in Korea (especially if you read I.F. Stone's book - he was also very deceptive). But I think he changed as he got older, and realized the folly of a land war in Asia.

Maybe MacArthur saw the same undesirable CIA power that was taking form and reacted to it just like JFK.
