Former Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky is arraigned on sex abuse charges Nov. 5. He was released on $100,000 bail.

Two cases of child sex abuse alleged against Jerry Sandusky have been opened by Children and Youth Services in Pennsylvania.
The cases were reported less than 60 days ago, and so they are still in the initial stages of the investigation.
If they are found to be credible, these would be the first known cases to be reported since Sandusky's arrest that involve current children. All of the other publicly known cases of alleged victims coming forward have been adults.
In Pennsylvania, when an adult comes forward and alleges abuse -- even if it happened when that person was a child -- it's solely a police matter. CYS only participates in the investigation if the victim is still under 18.
This new information could give credence to a growing debate over whether Sandusky should have been arrested more quickly.

When a 15-year-old Clinton County boy first alleged crimes against the former football legend and charity founder, police opted to open a grand jury investigation instead of making an immediate arrest.
It was a surprise move to the family of the boy, now known as Victim One.
And, it became a point of wonder for others in law enforcement when The Patriot-News first reported earlier this month that, for the first 15 months of the investigation against Sandusky, there was only one state trooper assigned to the case.
It wasn't until the fall of 2010 that agents from the state Attorney General's office got involved, and then when then-Attorney General Tom Corbett was elected governor and took office in January 2011, he appointed state police commissioner Frank Noonan, who increased the number of investigators to eight.
That was when things really started to take off. It wasn't until January 2011 that Joe Paterno, fomer athletic director Tim Curley and vice president Gary Schultz testified. It wasn't until April that officials from The Second Mile testified.
None of the other seven cases of alleged abuse, outlined in the grand jury presentment, were known until more investigators joined the team.
The 1998 police report -- which never led to charges when investigated by missing district attorney Ray Gricar -- wasn't found until late 2010. That file was found around the same time that assistant coach Mike McQueary was contacted for the first time by police.
McQueary testified before the grand jury that he'd witnessed abuse in 2002 and reported it to Schultz and Curley, but nothing ever came of that investigation.
As a result of his testimony, Curley and Schultz were charged with perjury and failure to report a crime.
But none of the cover-up investigation began until 2011. And it wasn't until after The Patriot-News broke the story of the investigation in March of this year, that officials from the Clinton County school district where Sandusky had allegedly spent time with Victim One were subpoenaed.
Gricar's former staff members were not interviewed until after March 2011.
And Jerry Sandusky's home was not searched until this summer two and half years after the investigation began.
In response to questions about the length of the investigation, Corbett said yesterday:
"The one thing you do not want to do as a prosecutor is go on one case. ... You want to show a continued course of action."
If a first set of charges are filed early and "you were to lose that one case, it would be much more difficult to bring charges in other cases because it would be seen by you, by the public, as vindictive," he added.
Corbett noted that decisions on filing charges or working to build a stronger case are made with the team of investigators. He did not address why only one investigator was assigned to the case until late 2010. His spokesman, Kevin Harley, has said that information is not accurate. However, The Patriot-News confirmed it with several sources close to the investigation.
"These are professional prosecutors who are ... making tactical decisions which you all are questioning. And you have the right to question that," Corbett said. "But these are people who have experience in these fields, and they made decisions that I agreed with when I was there, and that current Attorney General Linda Kelly has agreed with thereafter."

Will Freeh bungle Penn State child-sex abuse investigation too?

OKLAHOMA CITY More than two weeks after the public began to learn of the child-sex abuse allegations against former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky, we learn that former FBI Director Louis Freeh, now in the private sector, has been hired to uncover the truth about horrific child-sex abusecrimes in State College, Pennsylvania.

Freeh, you may recall, served as FBI director during the Clinton administration and was in that leadership spot during the 1995 Alfred P. Murrah building bombing. Now that Freeh has been "tapped to lead Penn State's investigation into the child-sex abuse allegations" against Sandusky, and perhaps others, with information allegedly stretching back to 1975,Red Dirt Report wonders if Penn State really wants this crime to be solved and their questions to be answered.

As reported today, Freeh said: "I will personally lead that investigation. The special committee has hired my law firm to conduct a fair and independent investigation."
Good luck getting to the truth, Penn State. Given Freeh's lousy reputation as a crimefighter - and not surprisingly, former Pennsylvania Attorney General and current Gov. Tom Corbett gives Freeh a big thumbs up - you would think Penn State would stay far, far away from Freeh, unless Freeh is expected to bungle, cover up and obfuscate while pretending to expose the crimes against children there in the Keystone State. We hope he is there to do the right thing by those victimized by Sandusky and others.

People at Penn State - also known as "Happy Valley" - have known about Sandusky's crimes and have covered for him and ousted, godlike Coach Joe Paterno. Note this article in the Beaver County Times which, back in April, was shouting from the rooftops about Sandusky and note that "But there's no shortage of stories and rumors about Penn State football sweeping problems under the rug."

Freeh, we must note, is an interesting and controversial choice. Yes, controversy seemed to stick to Freeh like crazy glue throughout the 1990's. First, there was Freeh's coverup of the 1992 Ruby Ridge travesty. Another big one involved the fallout from Waco, which spilled over into Freeh's tenure, another botched event and subsequent cover-up. Freeh has a lot to answer for.
While Freeh is viewed as incompetent, he and his underlings were effective in covering up and/or ignoring major crimes and controversies over the years that he was charged to protect the American people. As Charles R. Smith wrote of Freeh at Newsmax.com in 2002: "FBI Director Louis Freeh oversaw the longest run of FBI public disasters in its entire history" with Freeh transforming the FBI "from a federal law enforcement agency into a political joke."
Think about it. Freeh was in charge during the "500 missing FBI files" incident, the Unabomber case, the Wen Ho Lee/Los Alamos files espionage case, the Montana Freemen showdown, the shoot down of TWA Flight 800 in 1996 and so on. Do you feel you have more answers or fewer answers on those incidents and tragedies? Think about it.
Oh, and did you know Freeh was appointed FBI director in July 1993, the day before Vincent Foster's body was found in Fort Marcy Park?, The prior director, William Sessions, was ousted by Attorney General Janet Reno in the wake of the Waco disaster a disaster Freeh would fail to fully investigate, according to reports.
In a September 2000 article in Business Week, writer Howard Gleckman, in a piece titled "The Case Against Louis Freeh," the article absolutely blasts the director, who was still in charge at that time.
Writes Gleckman: "The man (Freeh) has overseen a bureau that has bungled investigations of high-profile criminal cases and repeatedly misled probers and judges in legal proceedings never more shamelessly than in the matter of Los Alamos scientist Wen Ho Lee. At the same time, Freeh's FBI has tried to run roughshod over the civil liberties of ordinary citizens, demanding access to encryption codes and elbowing its way onto every PC in the country through its Carnivore project."
Remember, that was written 11 years ago and one year before 9/11.
And for those of us here in Oklahoma City, still healing from the effects of the bombing more than 16 years later, to learn that former FBI Director Freeh is leading an investigation into a major crime which may involve connections to many other people, well, don't hold your breath folks. He had an opportunity to do the right thing by the victims of the bombing and he opted not to do the right thing and bring the real criminals to justice.

In fact, the idea that Freeh will uncover anything of substance good luck, Penn State scandal truthseekers is an absolute joke. For instance, Freeh was exposed as knowing a lot more about the details of who was involved in the bombing, far beyond Timothy McVeigh. Be sure to check out the upcoming release of Free Mind Films' explosive documentary, A Noble Lie.
As exposed by the late J.D. Cash, an investigative reporter with the McCurtain Daily Gazette, Freeh and the FBI allegedly knew of a bomb plot and the activities of German intelligence contact and Neo-Nazi infiltrator Andreas Strassmeir at Elohim City in Adair County, Oklahoma. And what of Larry Potts, a leading FBI investigator? Freeh made sure Potts, his number two guy, rose in the ranks, yet what does Freeh think about accusations made against Potts, a villain linked to numerous botched cases? This includes comments by the late Timothy McVeigh, executed for his role in the bombing, who said Potts - involved in Ruby Ridge and Waco - knew him well and was forcing the former soldier-turned-radical to "go off script" and that McVeigh's accomplice, Terry Nichols, said the bombing was an "FBI op," as noted by a hard-hitting 2007 article in Utah'sDeseret News.

As for "Andy the German" Strassmeir, much of his role in the "FBI op" was revealed in a January 1996 memo Freeh sent out to senior FBI field agents which noted the Southern Poverty Law Center/FBI joint sting operation at Elohim City, Okla. was being handled in the days prior to the bombing.
As Cash reported, while Freeh's FBI put up border guards on the Mexican border to pick up Strassmeir for questioning in regards to his links to Elohim City and McVeigh, Strassmeir managed to slip through their fingers. The teletype, obtained via an FOIA request, was heavily redacted but reveals that FBI Director Freeh knew a lot more about the Oklahoma City bombing case than the public was led to believe. Why did Freeh allow Strassmeir to flee the U.S. and go back to Germany without being questioned about his role in the lead-up to the Oklahoma City bombing, the biggest domestic terror attack up to that time in history? Wouldn't Strassmeir's knowledge of McVeigh and "others unknown" have been useful to the federal investigation into the April 19, 1995 bombing here in Oklahoma City that killed 168 and wounded many others?

As Cash wrote, in a piece posted in 2005 at WorldNetDaily.com: "The Freeh teletype also discusses an allegedly close relationship McVeigh had with a subject living at Elohim City, a person who, the teletype says, spoke with McVeigh only two days before the bombing."
Continuing, Cash, and co-writer Roger Charles note: "That information, Freeh said, was from an informant who was working for the Southern Poverty Law Center a tax-exempt civil rights group co-founded by Morris Dees."
It was Freeh's FBI that gathered up all the videotapes after the Oklahoma City bombing. Where are those tapes now, Mr. Freeh?

The FBI crime labs under Freeh were accused by an FBI whistleblower that evidence in OKBOMB had been tainted. And Freeh punished him, sending a chilling message to other potential whistleblowers. And yet Penn State, certainly knowing Freeh's background and history, wants him to do an independent investigation into this serious case at Penn State, which some have reported may include Sandusky's involvement in "pimping out" children to wealthy Penn State donors?
Freeh's predecessor, William S. Sessions, was FBI director when Ruby Ridge and Waco happened and was in charge when accusations arose against powerful people and institutions in the late 1980's and early 1990's regarding pedophile rings leading up to the top rungs of American political power, something some independent researchers claim goes on to this day. The 2005 "Gannon-gate" episode, as noted by reporter Wayne Madsen, was reminiscent of the 1989 pedophile and prostitution scandal linked to the Franklin Community Credit Union in Omaha, Nebraska. And interestingly, that scandal seems reminiscent of what we are seeing unfold at Penn State, if the allegations of Sandusky "pimping" kids out to wealthy school donors are indeed true, as reported by sports journalist Mark Madden.

The FBI seems to be more interested in crisis management and cover up than in actually solving serious crimes, as we have seen time and again.
When Red Dirt Report first learned that Freeh was hired by Penn State to investigate the Sandusky child-sex abuse case as an independent investigator, we thought about some of our sources who are still upset with Freeh for allegedly covering up so many aspects of what happened prior, during and after the Oklahoma City bombing. This includes the murders of Oklahoma City Police Officer Terry Yeakey and prisoner Kenneth Trentadue, killed while in federal custody in the wake of the OKC bombing, in what his brother Jesse Trentadue believes was a case of mistaken identity.That happened on Freeh and Reno's watch.

Red Dirt Report is very skeptical of Freeh and whether or not he will really find out anything of consequence and if he does, be on the alert that if it involves very powerful and influential people.
Think about it. It was at the end of his tenure that Freeh, a devout Roman Catholic and rumored to be linked with the shadowy Opus Dei organization, dramatized in Dan Brown's Catholic Church-linked conspiracy thriller The DaVinci Code, was revealed as actually attending the same church as devoted Opus Dei Catholic and FBI agent-turned-spy Robert Hanssen. Freeh notes in his bio My FBI: Bringing Down the Mafia, Investigating Bill Clinton and Fighting the War on Terror, that he didn't know that Hanssen, a fellow parishioner at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Great Falls, Va., was up to no good and selling us out to the Russians and earning Hanssen the infamous name "the most damaging spy in history." Somehow, the big ones tend to get by Freeh. Hmmm.

Interestingly, exactly six months prior to the terror attacks of 9/11/01, some pamphleteers critical of Freeh and his cover up of the 1993 "holocaust" of Branch Davidians near Waco, Texas appeared outside his church. While the critics of Freeh and his FBI were angrily driven off the church property by the priest, the somewhat rambling pamphlet notes accuses Freeh of being a "conspirator in the murder of the Branch Davidians, an accessory after the fact."

Perhaps Louis Freeh has learned a lot since those crazy days of the 1990's. Perhaps he has had time to reflect on his career and the crimes he was charged with investigating, on behalf of the American people.
But we're not sure, given his awful record in tracking down the real criminals in numerous high-profile cases. As one person who lost several family members in the Oklahoma City bombing told us this afternoon of Freeh and his new assignment at Penn State, "(Freeh) screwed up here and he's going to screw up there." There aren't many fans of Freeh back here in Oklahoma. We hope folks in Pennsylvania take that into account as their "independent investigation" is launched.

For the sake of the victims at Penn State and those who are extraordinarily upset and outraged about what took place there for many, many years, we truly hope Louis Freeh uncovers the truth and that the despicable Jerry Sandusky - and others - are ultimately brought to justice.

Sandusky Cover Up Scandal



This commentary is not to justify the alleged actions of Jerry Sandusky. I believe he is more than likely guilty and that is why I could never be an impartial juror. According to the U.S. Constitution, which preserves civility in the United States, we need to recognize the court procedures set forth by it. In other words, we need to recognize that government, law enforcement, and politicians will may use it against us to paint a story with the media. Right now there are only bits and pieces of information; people are appalled and rightfully so, but making sure we get the complete story is necessary. I feel most main stream news sources would not print this, thus we need the internet: the underworld of news. I hope this story is shared by many to get to the core of the truth, as people we are supposed to trust have done a great injustice not only to young children but also to innocent men of which none is Jerry Sandusky in this commentary.


The Penn State University's association with Jerry Sandusky is going to get super ugly and the whole truth will probably never come out as there is far more to it than just PSU football. The cover up involves Penn State officials starting with the board of trustees, government officials and the police all doing their very best to try to pin this on the most obvious person, Joe Paterno. Paterno is the face of Penn State football and Sandusky was an assistant coach a long time ago (1999). One thing I would bet my life on is that Joe Paterno didn't want Sandusky around PSU.

Let's look at some facts. Jerry Sandusky was twice named assistant coach of the year in Division I college football. He was a great defensive coordinator and the record proves his worth to PSU football. While Sandusky was at Penn State, the Nittany Lions had 31 winning seasons during a 32-year stretch. The university was nicknamed Linebacker U. In 1997, Sandusky was first subjected to child abuse charges when the District Attorney of Centre County, Pennsylvania, Ray Gricar dismissed the charges despite evidence and a statement from a victim that Sandusky was showering in the nude with minors and fondling young boys. Because Gricar dismissed the charges, it was just an allegation and 32 years of tenure at Penn State meant the University couldn't just fire Sandusky without justification lest it would face a wrongful termination lawsuit.

After the original allegations, Joe Paterno told Sandusky he would not be the next head coach at Penn State and he should consider retiring. Paterno informed Sandusky the football team needed to head in a different direction. Considering PSU was used to winning football seasons with Sandusky it seemed strange to fix something that wasn't broken. The five years immediately following Sandusky's departure PSU had four losing season. The decision to push Sandusky out was not about winning but about character, and Sandusky's character appeared to be in question. Per the urging of Paterno, Sandusky agreed to an early "enhanced retirement package" and since he was never convicted he was in a position to negotiate a decent retirement package.

Due to the horrible record and sub-standard PSU defense in the post Sandusky years, Tim Curley the PSU athletic director actually asked Joe to step down as football coach; Paterno refused. Based on this knowledge it is safe to say Joe Paterno was not all about winning football games as he pushed out his best assistant coach because of strong allegations.

Sandusky retired from PSU football at a young age for a football coach (55). His focus turned towards the charity he founded,the Second Mile Foundation. This charity had a legal counselor named Wendell Courtney. Coincidentally, Courtney was the university legal counsel who negotiated Sandusky's retirement package. The retirement package included, the title of Professor of Physical Education with emeritus status allowing Sandusky full use of university facilities. Sandusky also received an office in East Hall along with a telephone line yet, he never taught at PSU. The retirement package was approved by the Penn State board of trustees (1998) NOT Joe Paterno the football coach.

Why would Sandusky need an office and phone at PSU? The answer lies with Wendell Courtney. Courtney was legal counsel for The Second Mile Foundation, a charity that raised millions of dollars for under privileged youths. Raising funds for this organization includes many ex Nittany Lion players who played in the NFL with big time contacts. Sandusky maintained his reputation that included rather complimentary words from former Super Bowl winning coach Dick Vermeil, former President George H. Bush, and many others plus the association with Penn State University as the cleanest football program in collegiate sports. The PSU connection, the phone, the office was all beneficial to Sandusky to raise funds for the Second Mile Foundation. Wendell Courtney as legal counsel was also a beneficiary of the fund raising as only 10% of the funds donated to charities are required by law to go to the actual cause while 90% can be used towards administration fees.

Money was the motivation for Sandusky's existence at PSU as for the District Attorney for Centre County Ray Gricar he cannot answer questions because he has been missing since 2005. Gricar's Mini Cooper was last seen along the banks adjacent to the Susquehanna River in April of 2005, 9 years earlier his brother Roy's body was found in the great Miami River in Ohio.

Now let's look at Joe Paterno's character. He was an advocate of academics, his players graduated at a rate 78%, 9% greater than the national average and only second to Northwestern in the Big Ten Conference.

"Paterno is also renowned for his charitable contributions to academics at Penn State. He and his wife Sue have contributed over $4 million towards various departments and colleges, including support for the Penn State All-Sports Museum, which opened in 2002, and the Pasquerilla Spiritual Center, which opened in 2003. After helping raise over $13.5 million in funds for the 1997 expansion of Pattee Library, the University named the expansion Paterno Library in their honor.

In 2007, former player Franco Harris and his company R Super Foods honored Paterno for his contributions to Penn State by featuring his story and picture on boxes of Super Donuts and Super Buns in Central PA. It should also be noted that Paterno never earned more than $568,000 (base salary) a year in his career well below what he could have commanded with both tenure and a following nationwide. While most division I coaches earn well over a million and up to $5 million per season Joe Paterno the living legend, collegiate football Hall of Famer barely made a 1/2 million per year. Joe raised funds also but those funds were given to the cause not his personal wealth as Joe lives in a very moderate house

Joe has a reputation of playing by the rules and if he was guilty of anything it was playing by the rules when it came to Sandusky. Joe couldn't fire Sandusky in 1999 he had to suggest he retire from the program. In 2002 upon hearing of allegations from Mike McQueary about child molestation in the showers by the former assistant Sandusky, Joe followed rules, just like he has done his entire life. The rules at Penn State set out by the board of trustees states, that any sexual misconduct must be reported to ones immediate superior. In this case Paterno and McQueary reported to Tim Curley the Athletic Director and Gary Schultz the Sr. VP of Business and Finance. Paterno followed the rules along with McQueary and per state law Mike McQueary witnessed an act in the showers of alleged sexual misconduct with a minor by an adult and by law he must report this to the police. Joe Paterno was a football coach at Penn State, he had legendary status, he had great support but he was never a God as some people suggested. He yielded power to the board of trustees. The same group that fired him and if you are indeed and almighty powerful god you don't have the board of trustees firing you.

As for Mike McQueary, the than 28 year old graduate assistant allegedly witnessed a horrific act for which he came forward to Joe Paterno, Tim Curley, Gary Schultz and per his own statements, the police. University police and Centre County police are both denying reports of McQueary making statements. McQueary is considered a credible witness by the state. He has not been fired by the board of trustees and he is not wanted by the police for any violations of the law yet both the police departments with jurisdiction are denying he made a statement. Considering McQueary has not been charged and he was found to be a credible honest witness by the appointed grand jury I would assume he has been honest throughout and did make a police report. As for the police as the puzzle comes together it appears they are involved in the cover up.

Gary Schultz is an important figure in this entire debacle. Schultz is the Senior Vice President of Business and Finance for Penn State. He also oversees the PSU police department. In other words he is either the head of the University Police Department or he is a representative of the police department, otherwise what importance did he have with hearing statements from Paterno and McQueary? Schultz and AD Tim Curley decided the report from McQueary was "not that serious" and like Ray Gricar in 1998 dismissed the eye witness account from McQueary and never reported their findings to the state of Pennsylvania child services dept as required by law. Gary Schultz appears to have a major conflict of interest. He was the head of the University police department (oversees) and also the Sr. Vice President of Business and Finance; to report Sandusky for sexual misconduct with a minor would have rocked the PSU program in 2002 costing the University revenue and making Schultz look bad so it's possible he decided to cover up and focus on finance and business. Schultz has been discredited as having faulty testimony in the case and is not considered a credible witness. Grand Jury Report page 9

This wouldn't be the first time the police have covered up a crime. The fraternity in blue was well aware of first hand reports of sexual abuse by Sandusky in 1997 in Centre County. The police didn't pursue this and by law appropriately since than District Attorney Ray Gricar dismissed the charges; the police did not have the authority to go any further unless you install "Noonan's moral obligations". Yet in 2002 Mike McQueary says he made a report to the police. Police deny McQueary made a report to them in 2002, so someone is not being consistent with the truth or lying to cover up.

Schultz is currently retired from PSU and is out on bail for failing to report a criminal act against a child (Grand Jury report page 12) Based on the information Schultz received from McQueary he along with recently fired President Graham Spanier took away Sandusky's keys and notified him not to bring children onto PSU property. This was not Joe Paterno's ruling these were Senior officials of the Penn State University making the decision.

In 2009 more allegations were brought against Jerry Sandusky by Clinton County High School for molesting young boys where Sandusky was a volunteer coach. The 2009 charges were the responsibility of than Attorney General (Republican) Tom Corbett. Corbett claims he put off the case because he had ties to the Sandusky family. In 2009 Corbett had enough evidence to arrest Sandusky but chose to wait. Ironically the Second Mile Charity had donated over $640,000 to Corbett's political campaigning including $200,000 for Corbett's 2010 race for Governor of Pennsylvaniahttp://earlyreturns.sites.post-gazette.com/index.php/early-returns-20/53-post-gazette-staff/3641-more-second-mile-psucorbett-ties To make matters worse Governor Tom Corbett aware of the Sandusky child molestation case in 2009 as attorney general approved a $3,000,000 state grant to The Second Mile Charity in 2010 and this is the same governor who refused to spend $40 million for disabled citizens but had $3 million to give a charity who he knew was the focus point of a child molestation case. http://thepennsylvaniaprogressive.com/

The cover up is far deeper and goes into the judicial system and polithttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifics. The judge who set the bail for Sandusky to roam free on $100,000 bail ($400,000 lighter than requested by the prosecutor's office) had direct ties with the Second Mile Charity; another conflict of interest. The Second Mile charity also recently bought land from Penn St. University which was approved by the board of trustees which includes on the board Republican Governor Tom Corbett. Had Corbett revealed in 2009 Sandusky his acceptance of campaign donations from Sandusky's charity might have come into strong question and he would have not received more financial support in 2010 for the governor's race. With all of the money involved with The Second Mile charity and the President and founder of the charity Jerry Sandusky it took a lot of nerve or ignorance by Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan to criticize Joe Paterno for "not meeting his moral obligations". It's easy to go after the 84 year old man after all he is feeble and will die soon enough even if he decides to sue the state for slandering his reputation. Remember Paterno tried to get rid of Sandusky the board of trustees allowed him to keep and office on campus.

Frank Noonan stirred the pot, he slandered Joe Paterno so badly that support for Paterno was at an all time low. This allowed the board of trustees to fire Paterno. The spotlight has been placed on Paterno as an "enabler" yet Sandusky has not been under Joe Paterno's supervision since 1999. Joe is a big enough figure that a spotlight on him takes it off of the real "enablers". Frank Noonan slandered Joe Pa to take the focus off his boss in the governor's office. The money trail from Sandusky to Corbett is documented. Jerry had a value to Tom Corbett's political career.

It's a horrific tragedy that young boys for years have been allegedly molested by Sandusky. I refrain from calling him guilty but the evidence and the political cover up supported by police departments state wide and the attempt to deflect press onto Joe Paterno is the most corrupt sickest political scandals in my lifetime. A case so vile as child molestation that is covered up for so many years probably wouldn't be covered up by a man that followed the rules his entire life of 84 years and showed excellent character but when politicians, police, and money is involved even the sickest of actions are allowed for such an extensive period of time until it gets so hideous that parents talk to too many cops until finally something has to be done and it has been done.

PSU in this case does not stand for Penn State University, it stands for Political State cover Up. Sorry but to cover up child molestation for 14 years the man who does not supervise him for the past 12 years and pushes him out of the program is not big enough to enable a child molester but with political donations a governor and attorney general has more than enough power.

Freeh Has Some Ties To Penn State, Probe

Published : Tuesday, 22 Nov 2011, 9:28 AM ESTFormer FBI director Louis J. Freeh, the head of Penn State's self-investigation, has ties to a university fundraiser and possibly the man leading the state's investigation into child sex abuse at the school.
The Wilmington News Journal says Freeh once worked with Ric Struthers, a big contributor affiliated with Penn State.
Freeh was general counsel of MBNA in Wilmington when Struthers was a top executive.
Struthers is also on the board of directors of The Second Mile, the charity that was founded by Jerry Sandusky.
Sandusky is the former Penn State assistant coach who faces numerous sex-abuse charges in the Penn State scandal.
A spokeswoman for the Penn State trustees said in a statement to the News-Journal that Freeh "reported at all times to MBNA's chief executive officer, and not to Mr. Struthers."
Also, the head of the Pennsylvania state police, who also leading the state investigation into Sandusky along with the current attorney general, worked at the FBI when Freeh was its director.
Frank Noonan was named Chief of Criminal Investigations for Tom Corbett in July 2009, after Sandusky case allegedly came to Attorney General Corbett in March 2009.
Noonan was at the FBI from 1971 until his retirement in 1998.
Freeh was the director of the FBI from September 1993 to June 2001.
Penn State trustee Ken Frazier, the CEO of Merck, said on Monday that Freeh was chosen partly by the trustees because he had "no connection whatsoever to Penn State or the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania."
Also, the Pittsburgh Tribune Review says the senior partner in Freeh's law firm, Freeh, Sporkin & Sullivan, is a Penn State graduate.

Stanley Sporkin attended Penn State from 1949 to 1953.
In a Monday press conference, Freeh said he would be sharing information with state investigators in the case.

Two Scandals, One Connection: The FBI link between Penn State and UC Davis

Two shocking scandals. Two esteemed universities. Two disgraced university leaders. One stunning connection. Over the last month, we've seen Penn State University President Graham Spanier dismissed from his duties and we've seen UC Davis Chancellor Linda Katehi pushed to the brink of resignation. Spanier was jettisoned because of what appears to be a systematic cover-up of assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky's serial child rape. Katehi has faced calls to resign after the she sent campus police to blast pepper spray in the faces of her peaceably assembled students, an act for which she claims "full responsibility." The university's Faculty Association has since voted for her ouster citing a "gross failure of leadership." The names Spanier and Katehi are now synonymous with the worst abuses of institutional power. But their connection didn't begin there. In 2010, Spanier chose Katehi to join an elite team of 20 college Presidents on what's called the National Security Higher Education Advisory Board, which "promotes discussion and outreach between research universities and the FBI."
Spanier said upon the group's founding in 2005, "The National Security Higher Education Advisory Board promises to help universities and government work toward a balanced and rational approach that will allow scientific research and education to progress and our nation to remain safe." He also said that the partnership could help provide "internships" to faculty and students interested in "National Security issues."
FBI chief Robert Mueller said at a press conference with Spanier, "We knew it would not be necessarily an easy sell because of the perceived tension between law enforcement and academia. But once we've briefed President Spanier on the national security threats that impact all of you here at Penn State and at other universities, it became clear to all of us why this partnership is so important. "
But the reality of this partnership is far different. Its original mandate was about protecting schools from "cyber theft" and "intellectual property issues.". But, as has been true with the FBI since Hoover, give them a foothold, and they'll take off their shoes and get cozy. Their classified mandate has since expanded to such euphemisms as "counter-terrorism" and "public safety." It also expanded federal anti-terrorism task forces to include the dark-helmeted, pepper-spray brigades, otherwise known as the campus police.
As Wired magazine put it in 2007, "presidents are being advised to think like "Cold War-riors" and be mindful of professors and students who may not be on campus for purposes of learning but, instead, for spying, stealing research and recruiting people who are sympathetic to an anti-U.S. cause."
Chancellor Katehi said in 2010 that despite these concerns, she was proud to join the NSHEA because, "It's important for us to learn from the FBI about the smartest, safest protocols to follow as we do our work, and it is equally important that the FBI has a solid understanding of matters of academic freedom."
Sacremento's FBI Special Agent in Charge, Drew Parenti, praised her involvement, saying, "The FBI's partnership with higher education is a key component in our strategy of staying ahead of national security threats from our foreign adversaries…. we are very pleased that Chancellor Katehi has accepted an appointment to serve on the board."
As for the actual meetings between the presidents of academic institutions and the FBI, those discussions are classified. If you are a rabble-rousing faculty member or a student group stepping out of line, your school records can become the FBI's business and you'd be none the wiser.
Chris Ott, from the Massachusetts ACLU, said of the NSHEA, "The FBI is asking university faculty, staff, and students to create a form of neighborhood watch against anything that is so called suspicious.' What kinds of things are they going to report on? Who has the right to be snitching? One of the scary things is who [on the campuses] will take it upon themselves to root out spies?"
In the wake of the scandals that have enveloped and now destroyed the careers of Spanier and Katehi, the very existence of the NCHEA should now be called to question. Given the personal character on display by these two individuals, why should anyone trust that the classified meetings have stayed in the realm of "cyber theft" and intellectual property rights? What did the FBI tell Chancellor Katehi about how to deal with the peacefully assembled Occupiers? Was "counter-terrorism" advice given on how to handle her own students?
As for Spanier, how much of Sandusky's actions at Penn State, which were documented on campus but never shared with the local police, was the FBI privy to? Why did the school hire former FBI director Louis Freeh to head up their internal investigation? Does that in fact represent a conflict of interest? And most critically, did the "chilling effect" of a sanctioned FBI presence at Penn State, actually prevent people from coming forward?
When Spanier was asked in 2005, if he was concerned about whether a formal partnership with the FBI would cause objections he said, "If there is an issue on my campus, I'd like to be the first person to hear about it, not the last." In the context of recent events, it's probably best to let those words speak for themselves. But fear not for the futures of these two stewards of higher education and academic freedom. Maybe Spanier's can put his experience as a federal informant to good use from inside a federal prison. As for Katehi, if, as suspected, she'll be unemployed shortly, perhaps she can take advantage of one of those fabulous internship opportunities having the FBI on campus provides.

Joe Paterno went to school and Mass here. Joe Paterno learned his core Christian values at Good Shepherd School and church on Brown St. here in Marine Park, a rugged, working-middle-class Brooklyn neighborhood that also produced baseball legend Joe Torre, with the local Little League named after him.
Joe Paterno played sports here, learning a fierce Brooklyn street code of right and wrong, and later was a running back at the Jesuit-strict Brooklyn Prep High, before graduating Brown and going to Penn State to win a record 409 football games and national glory.
Sports have always been a very big deal in Good Shepherd parish.
So, now, is pedophilia.
Last month the Rev. Msgr. Thomas Brady, 78, once chaplain of the FDNY and pastor emeritus of Good Shepherd, was arrested on charges of abusing two boys.
Then, hut-one, hut-two, right behind that sack came the Penn State child-rape scandals, with Joe Paterno accused of looking the other way.
After Good Shepherd's 7 a.m. Mass yesterday, parishioner Joe Stemberger, a transit worker, said, "How could they abuse the disadvantaged kids who came to them for hope and then cover it up? The way the church covered up these priest scandals?"
There might be no better man to help answer that question than Pudgy Walsh, a legendary local football coach of the semi-pro Brooklyn Mariners with 588 wins over 55 seasons.
Pudgy also attended Brooklyn Prep.
"Like everyone from the neighborhood I greatly admired Paterno," Pudgy says in a local diner. "And I know Msgr. Brady for 25 years and love the guy. I spent 31 years on FDNY, retired as a lieutenant. I worked with Brady when he was chaplain. He's had three strokes. Sickly. I haven't accepted it yet. If it was just one kid you might think they could be making it up. But two. . .?"
He sighs deeply, for good reason.
"These scandals affect me personally," he says. "Brings me back to June of 1943, I was 8, wearing shorts, walking with two pals, when a guy, maybe 19, 20, pulls upon a bicycle on Flatlands and E. 37 St. He takes one pal for a ride around the corner. Then takes my second pal. Fast. Then he took me. . . ."
The young man rode young Pudgy Walsh to a cluster of trees by Utica Ave. and Glenwood Road. "I will never forget the savage look in his eyes when he said, Take off your pants or I will kill you,'" Pudgy says, eyes glittering some seven decades later like a boy's. "Crying my eyes out, I took off my pants. The next hour is a blackout. Then he rode me on his bike to Coleman St. and Flatlands and said, I'm going in the Marines tomorrow. Pray for me.' I hope somewhere a Japanese soldier had a good eye."
Pudgy didn't tell his mother or retired-cop father. Shame made him bottle it. "I couldn't even confess it to a priest," Pudgy says. "I thought I'd committed an unforgivable sin."
He carried that shame into manhood before he told his siblings.
When the Msgr. Brady and Paterno scandals broke back-to-back, Pudgy Walsh was stunned. "If Paterno knew and did nothing it means he traded shame for fame," Pudgy says.
"That kid with his hands against the shower wall? I know what that feels like. It's abject fear for your life as a giant takes advantage of you. It's shame. It's horror. No guy I've ever met from Brooklyn, except the one who abused me, could ever stand by and do nothing. No player I ever coached, no fireman I ever worked with, no guy from Joe Paterno's neighborhood could turn the other way as kids were abused."
Why does he think Paterno did so little to stop it?
"Paterno was set up there, so high up in the steam, that everyone had to look up to see him," Pudgy says. "He stopped looking down; he forgot where he came from. If he remembered he was from here, from Marine Park, Brooklyn, he might have done more. It brought back horrible memories for me. But I'll never forget I'm from Brooklyn even though I have more wins than Joe Paterno."

AAU Basketball Leader Accused of Molesting Children; Would Sneak Into Room 'In the Middle of the Night'

Former AAU president Robert "Bobby" Dodd has been accused of molesting two children, former basketball players. They suggest the coach was a pedophile who snuck into their room at night and fondled them and kept bags of boys' underwear with names and dates on them.

A report from ESPN said they approached Dodd independently about the matter after the Penn State scandal broke in November involving former Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky. Since that time, allegations have also surfaced that former assistant Syracuse coach Bernie Fine molested children, including a team ball boy.
The AAU said late Friday it is investigating the claims that date from the 1980s. One of the former players who claims abuse is 43-year-old Ralph West, who told ESPN's "Outside the Lines" that he was sexually assaulted in Memphis in 1984. West reportedly now lives in Miami. Another unidentified man also claims that he was abused by Dodd. He spoke with ESPN "on the condition of anonymity," according to The Associated Press, explaining that he called Dodd on Nov. 11. He said Dodd apologized for the abuse.

The two men allege that the abuse from Dodd occurred between the ages of 12 and 16. They were basketball players for Memphis-based AAU teams headed by Dodd at the time. The men allege Dodd "fondled them and masturbated in front of them while they were in their teens. Neither man reported the abuse to the police," according to The New York Daily News.

ESPN reported that West accuses Dodd of fondling him, and said Dodd tried to fondle him or masturbated in front of him at Dodd's home in Memphis, the AAU Junior Olympics in South Bend, Ind., and tournaments in Florida, Louisiana and Tennessee, according to the AP. ESPN said West alleges that Dodd abused him or tried to abuse him roughly six times between 1983 and 1985 by sneaking into his room "in the middle of the night and you don't hear anything ... and he's trying to reach his hand in your underwear, basically."
Dodd led the AAU, or Amateur Athletic Union, since 1992 but reportedly retired just recently, on Nov. 29. An ESPN reporter contacted Dodd's assistant, who sent an email saying that Dodd has cancer and had recently retired for health reasons, ESPN said. But Dodd's departure was apparently abrupt, as other AAU officials contacted seemed unaware that Dodd has left the organization.
"That's the first I've heard of any of it," national chairwoman for the AAU athletics executive committee Robin Brown-Beamon told ESPN regarding the allegations.
Acting AAU president Louis Stout said in a statement released late Friday that Dodd has colon cancer and is permanently out of his former position as the organization's president and executive director.
"The AAU has recently been made aware of some serious allegations about President Robert W. 'Bobby' Dodd, dating back several decades," the statement said. "The AAU has opened an independent investigation into these matters and also has contacted local law enforcement in Memphis, where the activities allegedly occurred. We will actively cooperate with any and all authorities to determine the facts and the truth."
Indications suggest that West and the other identified man may not have been the only victims. Among the allegations made by West and the unidentified man include:
--Dodd kept hundreds of photos of other players clothed backsides and crotches in filing cabinets.
--Dodd had bags filled with pairs of teenage boys' underwear and kept names and dates on them.
--Dodd kept samples of boys' hair.
--West said Dodd once tried to pay him $1,000 to let him perform oral sex while the player was blindfolded and bound.
--The unidentified player believes Dodd abused him while passed out after serving him alcohol and a drug to make him unconscious.
West said he contacted the AAU via email on Nov. 9 alleging that Dodd was a pedophile by that nobody followed up, according to ESPN.
The AAU is one of the largest nonprofit volunteer sports organizations in the the U.S. According to the organization's Web site, AAU is dedicated to promoting and developing amateur sports and physical fitness programs for athletes of all ages.

Attorney: Sandusky may have been teaching kids to shower

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -A Carlisle attorney who has joined Jerry Sandusky's defense team says the former Penn State assistant football coach may have showered with young boys because the children lacked basic hygiene skills.
Sandusky is accused of molesting ten boys he met through The Second Mile charity he founded for troubled youth.
"Some of these kids don't have basic hygiene skills," attorney Karl Rominger said. "Teaching a person to shower at the age of 12 or 14 sounds strange to some people, but people who work with troubled youth will tell you there are a lot of juvenile delinquents and people who are dependent who have to be taught basic life skills like how to put soap on their body."

"...The corrections experts say that some of the worst abuses have occurred in Texas, whose prisons were under a federal consent decree during much of the time President Bush was governor because of crowding and violence by guards against inmates. Judge William Wayne Justice of Federal District Court imposed the decree after finding that guards were allowing inmate gang leaders to buy and sell other inmates as slaves for sex.

The experts also point out that the man who directed the reopening of the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq last year and trained the guards there resigned under pressure as director of the Utah Department of Corrections in 1997 after an inmate died while shackled to a restraining chair for 16 hours. The inmate, who suffered from schizophrenia, was kept naked the whole time.

The Utah official, Lane McCotter, later became an executive of a private prison company, one of whose jails was under investigation by the Justice Department when he was sent to Iraq as part of a team of prison officials, judges, prosecutors and police chiefs picked by Attorney General John Ashcroft to rebuild the country's criminal justice system.

Mr. McCotter, 63, is director of business development for Management & Training Corporation, a Utah-based firm that says it is the third-largest private prison company, operating 13 prisons. In 2003, the company's operation of the Santa Fe jail was criticized by the Justice Department and the New Mexico Department of Corrections for unsafe conditions and lack of medical care for inmates. No further action was taken....."

• Experiments conducted in both mental hospitals and the Veterans Administration hospitals.
  

Such experimentation requires money, and the United States government has funneled funds for drug experiments through different agencies, both overtly and covertly.

One of the funding agencies to contribute to the experimentation is the Law Enforcement Assistance Administration (LEAA), a unit of the U.S. Justice Department and one of President Richard Nixon's favorite pet agencies. The Nixon Administration was, at one time, putting together a program for detaining youngsters who showed a tendency toward violence in "concentration" camps. According to the Washington Post, the plan was authored by Dr. Arnold Hutschnecker. Health, Education and Welfare Secretary Robert Finch was told by John Erlichman, Chief of Staff for the Nixon White House, to implement the program. He proposed the screening of children of six years of age for tendencies toward criminality. Those who failed these tests were to be destined to be sent to the camps. The program was never implemented."

"There is strong evidence to indicate psychosurgery was still being used in prisons in the 1980's. Immediately after the funding announcement by LEAA, there were 50 psychosurgical operations at Atmore State Prison in Alabama. The inmates became virtual zombies. The operations, according to Dr. Swan of Fisk University, were done on black prisoners who were considered politically active."

"The Violence Control Center was actually the brain child of William Herrmann as part of a pacification plan for California. A counter insurgency expert for Systems Development Corporation and an advisor to Governor Reagan, Herrmann worked with the Stand Research Institute, the RAND Corporation, and the Hoover Center on Violence. Herrmann was also a CIA agent who is now serving an eight year prison sentence for his role in a CIA counterfeiting operation. He was also directly linked with the Iran-Contra affair according to government records and Herrmann's own testimony.

In 1970, Herrmann worked with Colston Westbrook as his CIA control officer when Westbrook formed and implemented the Black Cultural Association at the Vacaville Medical Facility, a facility which in July experienced the death of three inmates who were forcibly subjected to behavior modification drugs. The Black Cultural Association was ostensibly an education program designed to instill black pride identity in prisons, the Association was really a cover for an experimental behavior modification pilot project designed to test the feasibility of programming unstable prisoners to become more manageable.

Westbrook worked for the CIA in Vietnam as a psychological warfare expert, and as an advisor to the Korean equivalent of the CIA and for the Lon Nol regime in Cambodia. Between 1966 and 1969, he was an advisor to the Vietnamese Police Special Branch under the cover of working as an employee of Pacific Architects and Engineers.

His "firm" contracted the building of the interrogation/torture centers in every province of South Vietnam as part of the CIA's Phoenix Program. The program was centered around behavior modification experiments to learn how to extract information from prisoners of war, a direct violation of the Geneva Accords.

Westbrook's most prominent client at Vacaville was Donald DeFreeze, who between 1967 and 1969, had worked for the Los Angeles Police Department's Public Disorder Intelligence unit and later became the leader of the Symbionese Liberation Army. Many authorities now believe that the Black Cultural Association at Vacaville was the seedling of the SLA. Westbrook even designed the SLA logo, the cobra with seven heads, and gave De Freeze his African name of Cinque. The SLA was responsible for the assassination of Marcus Foster, superintendent of School in Oakland and the kidnapping of Patty Hearst.

As a counterinsurgency consultant for Systems Development Corporation, a security firm, Herrmann told the Los Angeles Times that a good computer intelligence system "would separate out the activist bent on destroying the system" and then develop a master plan "to win the hearts and minds of the people". The San Francisco-based Bay Guardian, recently identified Herrmann as an international arms dealer working with Iran in 1980, and possibly involved in the October Surprise. Herrmann is in an English prison for counterfeiting. He allegedly met with Iranian officials to ascertain whether the Iranians would trade arms for hostages held in Lebanon.

The London Sunday Telegraph confirmed Herrmann's CIA connections, tracing them from 1976 to 1986. He also worked for the FBI. This information was revealed in his London trial.

In the 1970's, Dr. Brian and Herrmann worked together under Governor Reagan on the Center for the Study and Reduction of Violence, and then, a decade later, again worked under Reagan. Both men have been identified as working for Reagan with the Iranians."

Further, the president of the United States, acting under his inherent powers as commander in chief, can lawfully order torture, without regard to federal criminal laws or international law.

"By defining torture very narrowlyas an activity that causes pain "equivalent in intensity to the pain accompanying serious physical injury such as organ failure, impairment of bodily function, or even death"this memo, by a kind of repellent verbal sleight of hand, makes it possible to treat many practices that plainly are torture, and are so recognized throughout the world, as something less than that."


This sounds an awful lot like a letter from a US Attorney that said that evidence of sexual abuse must include pain. (Do you think it might hurt but that the institutionalized victim might be impelled not to say so?) (There are YouTube videos you can find of male adult of prisoners being forcibly sodomized, but I'll refrain from providing the link.)

Further, says Danner:

"Though the administration had distanced itself from the so-called "torture memorandum" soon after it was leaked last June, and had quietly issued, a week before Gonzales was scheduled to appear before Congress, a more restrictive memorandum to replace it, Mr. Gonzales declined to dissociate himself from it. Instead, he implied that in the matter of interpreting and defining torture, and in making it possible for the government to apply it broadly, his hands were essentially tied: it was "the responsibility of the department [of justice] to tell us what the law means"though common sense suggests, and reports in The New York Times and elsewhere confirm, that the White House, and Mr. Gonzales himself, were instrumental in seeing that the Justice Department lawyers delivered the conclusions that the President wanted."

Gonzalez has spoken up, of course, in development and defense of warrantless surveillance. "During an appearance on ''The Charlie Rose Show'' in June 2005, Gonzales was promoting the reauthorization of the USA Patriot Act…. We now know differently... that it's been used as a tool for the purposes of maintaining domestic political control.


Gonzalez, as Attorney General, is also the fellow who exclaimed, in a typical NeoCon "rulling group mind set" twist of the English language, said that the Constitution does not expressly grant the right of habeas corpus, an expression so shocking that the arch-liberal Arlen Specter had to step in to clarify.

GONZALES: The fact that the Constitution again, there is no express grant of habeas in the Constitution. There is a prohibition against taking it away. But it's never been the case, and I'm not a Supreme SPECTER: Now, wait a minute. Wait a minute. The constitution says you can't take it away, except in the case of rebellion or invasion. Doesn't that mean you have the right of habeas corpus, unless there is an invasion or rebellion?

Yes, yes, of course it will be argued that one has to be a fully-credentialed Constitutional scholar (or a sitting Justice on the SCOTUS that has yet to rule on the question) before one is qualified to "read" Constititional language but, the last time I checked, this was America where it is our right no, our obligation to have an informed opinion about such things.

Mr. Sutton served as the Criminal Justice Policy Director for then-Governor George W. Bush from 1995-2000, advising the Governor on all criminal justice issues, with specific oversight in the areas of criminal law, prison capacity and management, parole operations and legislative initiatives."

Sutton was, of course, the prosecutor involved in the case in which Border Patrol Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean were found guilty of wounding Mexican drug courier Osvaldo Aldrete-Davila in far West Texas near El Paso. Savaged by dogs, Electrocuted With Cattle Prods, Burned By Toxic Chemicals

Does such barbaric abuse inside U.S. jails explain the horrors that were committed in Iraq?

They are just some of the victims of wholesale torture taking place inside the U.S. prison system that we uncovered during a four-month investigation for BBC Channel 4 . It's terrible to watch some of the videos and realise that you're not only seeing torture in action but, in the most extreme cases, you are witnessing young men dying.

The prison guards stand over their captives with electric cattle prods, stun guns, and dogs. Many of the prisoners have been ordered to strip naked. The guards are yelling abuse at them, ordering them to lie on the ground and crawl. Crawl, motherf*****s, crawl.'

If a prisoner doesn't drop to the ground fast enough, a guard kicks him or stamps on his back. There's a high-pitched scream from one man as a dog clamps its teeth onto his lower leg.

Another prisoner has a broken ankle. He can't crawl fast enough so a guard jabs a stun gun onto his buttocks. The jolt of electricity zaps through his naked flesh and genitals. For hours afterwards his whole body shakes.

Lines of men are now slithering across the floor of the cellblock while the guards stand over them shouting, prodding and kicking.

Second by second, their humiliation is captured on a video camera by one of the guards.

The images of abuse and brutality he records are horrifyingly familiar. These were exactly the kind of pictures from inside Abu Ghraib prison in Baghdad that shocked the world this time last year.

And they are similar, too, to the images of brutality against Iraqi prisoners that this week led to the conviction of three British soldiers.

But there is a difference. These prisoners are not caught up in a war zone. They are Americans, and the video comes from inside a prison in Texas.

They are just some of the victims of wholesale torture taking place inside the U.S. prison system that we uncovered during a four-month investigation for Channel 4 that will be broadcast next week.

Our findings were not based on rumour or suspicion. They were based on solid evidence, chiefly videotapes that we collected from all over the U.S.

In many American states, prison regulations demand that any use of force operation', such as searching cells for drugs, must be filmed by a guard.

The theory is that the tapes will show proper procedure was followed and that no excessive force was used. In fact, many of them record the exact opposite.

Each tape provides a shocking insight into the reality of life inside the U.S. prison system a reality that sits very uncomfortably with President Bush's commitment to the battle for freedom and democracy against the forces of tyranny and oppression.

In fact, the Texas episode outlined above dates from 1996, when Bush was state Governor.

"While at the facility," wrote Florida Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services Acting Inspector General Lowell Clary on May 19, 1993, "the team [of inspectors in 1989] received a phone call informing them that no matter what they found, STRAIGHT would receive their license." "If you do anything other than what I tell you on this issue, I will fire you on the spot," an HRS official was told. Clary wasn't positive, but evidence suggested that "pressure may have been generated by Ambassador Sembler and other state senators."

Bush and the torturing of Iraq's children

"This country pontificates and pats itself on the back about being a nation of law, compassion, truth, justice and that believes in God. It does this while being eyeball deep in the commission of war crimes. If the torturing of children does not fit the definition of war crimes, nothing does.

There is no justification for the torturing of children for any reason, under any circumstances by anyone, anytime, ever . . . period, end of story.

Due to and because of this, I accuse George W. Bush and his entire administration of:crimes against humanity, Abuse of power and office, and war crimes. Each and every one of them, Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, et al, should be tried for what they are . . . war criminals.

While children are being tortured in Iraq, the headline story on CNN is about the torturing of chickens by KFC suppliers. What has happened to this country's priorities? Where is its conscience and soul?"

A Wider Corruption

Whether Alberto Gonzales clears out his desk now or in a month is a technicality. His tenure as US Attorney General is over. The release in late March of a document that places him at a meeting to discuss the dismissal of US Attorneys--contradicting his earlier statements that he never participated in such conversations--adds significantly to the evidence that Gonzales lied about his involvement in the firings and their political motivation. At this writing, at least two Republican senators are openly calling for Gonzales's resignation. It is impossible to imagine his regaining the trust of Congress and the respect of Justice Department professionals.

The US Attorneys scandal is at once particular to the Justice Department and part of a much broader picture. The narrow scandal--the subject of scheduled testimony by Gonzales scapegoat Kyle Sampson and of Senate subpoenas to top White House staff--is bad enough: The allegation that Gonzales fired US Attorneys who would not elevate politics above professionalism goes to the heart of public safety and the rule of law. By itself, this scandal should finish not just Gonzales but Karl Rove, Bush's top political operative, and Harriet Miers, his former White House counsel, and anyone else involved. They all deserve investigation, and probably indictments.

But facts keep turning up, like jigsaw-puzzle pieces under the living-room couch, that fit into that even more alarming picture. In this bigger frame, the US Attorneys are but one example of how the Administration has undermined professionals and career civil servants throughout the federal bureaucracy. In these pages last fall, investigative journalist Dan Zegart detailed Bush team efforts to extend direct political control not only at the Justice Department but also deep into agencies where the White House has strong policy interests, such as the Food and Drug Administration, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Interior Department [see "The Gutting of the Civil Service," November 20]. In virtually every agency, Bush political appointees have undermined experts' rulings and recommendations on matters including drug safety, civil rights, tobacco litigation and air pollution enforcement while pushing a political agenda. And those efforts continue up to the present; the Washington Post reported on March 26 that witnesses have told Congressional investigators that the chief of the General Services Administration and a deputy in Rove's office joined in a late-January videoconference to discuss ways to help Republican candidates in the next elections.
