The claim is made on page 296 of A.E Hotchner's 1990 book BLOWN AWAY-THE ROLLING STONES AND THE DEATH OF THE SIXTIES. The book has also appeared under a slightly different title. Jones "was enthusiastic about his band plans. He had talked to Jimi Hendrix and John Lennon, and both were seriously considering joining up with him to form a new band." Hotchner was the former longtime editor of Ernest Heningway and interviewed a number of people who knew Jones for his book. The veracity of Hotchner's research and his claims is anyone's guess.
