BBC R4 Documentary - 'The Marburg File'
Presented by Dennis Blakeway
Produced by Nigel Acheson
Broadcast August 31, 1995
Coded from tape at 128/44.1
Towards the end of the war in Germany in 1945 a couple of
GIs discovered the German Foreign Ministry's archive. They
just prevented some German soldiers from destroying the lot.
The files were moved to Marburg castle for safety. Summaries
were sent to London and Washington for review. Papers dealing
with the Duke of Windsor were discovered. A couple of months
after this discovery, Anthony Blunt (then working for KGVI's
wife), showed-up and filleted the archive of these items.
What he didn't know was that there were duplicates of the
files, duplicates that ended up in the US.
This programme is about these - and other papers - and the
[attempts to have them destroyed].
Thanks for this Michael, I've been wracking my mind trying to remember the name of the Schloss where Blunt retrieved these papers from - and also tried to Google it, but got no hits to various search terms, so am really pleased to have this.
The shadow is a moral problem that challenges the whole ego-personality, for no one can become conscious of the shadow without considerable moral effort. To become conscious of it involves recognizing the dark aspects of the personality as present and real. This act is the essential condition for any kind of self-knowledge.
