The conspirators always make sure their power is so entwined with key core social elements that criticizing them is equal to criticizing those elements, so any credible critic or challenger can be seen as threat to those main social components and rejected as an extremist. An attacker of the wholesome norm. It's an arrangement that very effectively protects both those crimes and the public cowardice that tolerates them.
