I noticed that there is an ongoing discussion on the EF as to whether the Jack Rubinstein who reportedly worked for Richard Nixon in 1947 is the same Jack Ruby that we know today as the assassin of Lee Harvey Oswald. Jim DiEugenio commented: "LBJ was from Texas. Ruby was in Chicago at the time." This is technically true, but having checked my own Ruby timeline I noticed the following:
1940 - Paul Roland Jones moves to Dallas at request of Nick de John "to survey the area as to the possibility of taking over gambling, slot machines, bookies, and the numbers racket."
1942 - Jones starts gambling activities in Dallas; purchases San Jacinto Liquor Store and other properties with funds from de John.
1945 - Purchases Southwestern Amusement Co. and various other companies as front man for Marcus Lipsky.
Jones arrested with Sam Yaras, Lou Schneider, Julius Breakstone, Leo Goldsand, Marcus Lipsky, James Barsell, Paul Labriola, James Weinberg and William Joseph Messina for investigation on swindling. Told to leave Dallas.
1946 - Jones, representing Jake Guzik/Chicago syndicate, meets with Steve Guthrie via George Butler to discuss mob operations in Dallas. Pat Manno and Jack Knapp sent from Chicago at various times.
1947 - Ruby moves to Dallas, having visited a number of times previously.

“The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of doubt, what is laid before him.â€
