Gary McGowan Wrote:Thank you Peter. I just finished watching the video of Michael on Democracy now. It took my breath away and brought tears to my eyes. (I've been living in rural developing country for a long time--a different world from developed countries in terms of media and day-to-day interactions... I've never seen Moore interviewed more than a soundbite before... and I'm from Michigan.)I have to agree with you that education leaves a lot to be desired and amounts to mostly vocational training of workers to run the businesses and machines of the 'owners' of same and little in the way of how to think for oneself at all or creatively but I don't know what you mean by the 'American System of political economy'. America, the nation state, was developed and is based on theft and slavery and capitalism (a more complex form of theft and slavery) As for saving the world from fascism It was the USSR that saved the world from fascism not the USA. The US and UK were happy enough with fascism and toyed with it seriously themselves before deciding to go another slightly different route. It seems to me the only reason the US came into the European theater of WW2 was to stop the soviets from getting all the pie for themselves. There was certainly no need to the Americans to 'rescue' anyone as the soviets were doing just fine on their own. If the US hadn't been so busy doing business with Hitler before and during the war there would have been less consequences for the world to deal with. The death tolls of the respective nations show clearly who was fighting whom and for how long.
I was disappointed at the end for their having shown themselves mentally trapped in the "capitalism-socialism" box. Very few, even Americans living these days, were ever taught anything about the American System of political economy, much less its roots and importance in building the nation that saved the world from fascist takeover and sent the first of us to set foot on the Moon.
We'd best re-discover the principles, or most of the planet reverts to being a game preserve and city-state colonies for the financier elite.
.
As for putting men on the moon unless you are referring to great Americans like Werner Von Braun and the rest of Operation Paperclip Nazis that the US imported wholesale into their projects I have no idea what you could mean as without their Nazis it would not have happened.
What principles are you referring to?
