In Canada there was no draft and the first I heard of it at age 18 I was in shock. That you coul be actually be forced to go to war. This was during Vietnam. Of course I would have just gone back to Canada had I been a man and my number came up.

I graduated from High School in June 1966.I married in April 1967,and was drafted into the Army in Feb.1968.This was before they used the lottery system.I had three choices:
>Run to Canada
>Go to jail
>Try to get through my 2 year obligation.

What's a young man supposed to do? :argh:

Here is a link about a proposed monument to Americans who went to Canada to avoid been drafted into the US army. The monument however, was not built.
