Sadly, its introduction is not new...it has been in secret use for quite some time in USA and UK, elsewhere. It can also recognize iris pattern of eye for positive ID, if they have it on record. I'm not aware it is available to anyone outside of Police/Military/Intelligence/etc., so its use by the research community for photo anaysis is, I think, wishful thinking. It is an evil technology on the whole, making it possible to track [more than already done] the movements and identification of all - at all times - in just about all places. Sadly, the 'authorities' can't be trusted to only use it for real criminals - as they see anyone who doesn't buy their lies, misconstrutions of history or their political/economic/environmental/social-control voodoo as 'enemies' too.
