On the other hand Mark, not winning the war in Afghanistan may well be the underlying aim of US military engagement there, as it was in Vietnam?
An "unwinnable" war can drag on for years and years and years and years. Lots of bang-bang along with the smoke and mirrors. Lots and lots of money disappearing down unfathomable rabbit holes.
