Important, yes. There has to be some thing more to the extreme lengths the US government is going to protect and retrieve Davis, who on paper seems to be just another cog in the machine and no one of particular importance. After all, he didn't even warrant genuine diplomatic cover to start out with. So it is something far bigger and far more important than Davis they are trying to protect like a whole operation or task force.
