NEWPORT NEWS The Navy on Thursday said it will pay Huntington
Ingalls Industries Inc. an additional $56.6 million for materials and
planning efforts on the John F. Kennedy aircraft carrier.
The money was contained in a contract modification for research
studies, engineering, design, planning, advance construction and the
purchase of material for the Newport News-built carrier, the second in
the Gerald R. Ford class. Work is expected to be complete by October
2012.
Since the original contract was awarded in January 2009, the shipyard
has now received nearly $1 billion for advance planning and material
for the carrier.
