Mr. Khan, 25, was an enthusiast of jihad who lived with his parents in North Carolina as recently as four years ago, before leaving the United States for Yemen in 2009, where he is thought to have started Inspire magazine.The magazine recently attracted attention for its issue commemorating and celebrating the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. In the issue, the group criticized President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran for repeating conspiracy theories that diminished Al Qaeda's role in the attacks.
