It is beyond me why any one would need a loan to study at all. If one is using the 'user pays' principal it is the employer who will benefit from the trained labor. They want the labor let them pay for it. Industry should pay as they reap the benefits and use the skills. Workers should not have to pay extra for their own exploitation. Also, I see education as a benefit to society as a whole not just the individual. That is what taxes are paid for- roads, schools, railways science research etc. The only criteria for eligibility for study should be the ability to study not how much money you have or will have. A poor country like Cuba can provide quality education for its citizens totally free of any charges from primary to university level. They can also provide accommodation, food, books and a stipend for university students so all the student has to do is study free of all other obligations. You can always do voluntary work if you want to do something extra but at least you don't have to work to support yourself like so many in the west need to do on top of their studies. In the US and other countries it just seems a massive scam to me to load people up with debt and keep them in bonded servitude almost forever. It seems that is the point. I would suggest these US students use the bankruptcy laws the same way rich people do to avoid their obligations. I don't see that any of these students should be obligated to pay these usurious loans. What a scam.
