What has any of that got to do with legal highs or bath salts, Ed?

Danny - nothing much is the real answer.

The origin of much that Ed has referenced is a guy called Adam Parfrey, and his small publishing house Feral House - with a healthy smattering of George A Romero movies watched on acid and a healthy knowledge of Brussel Sprout Alex Constantine's occasionally inspired paranoid trips.

I remember reading Apocalypse Culture in the late 80s on the tube, and a prim and proper woman tutting and harrumphing and trying to get me thrown out of the carriage. Its raison d'etre was the exploitation of taboos.

In the 90s, Zombies were taken up by a tiny sub-culture of Post-Modern PhD students, and deliberately developed as some kind of viral meme. I know because a couple of them were friends of mine.

Incredibly bright, as tediously amoral as Rimbaud and the other French decadent poets, unable to believe in anything. They were Alienation in Pure Liquid Form.

Their traces survive in the Temporary Autonomous Zone of Hakim Bey, the wreckage of post-Gibsonian cyberpunk, electronic implants twitching, irritating, throbbing like the Gristle of Psychic TV's baiting of Leary and Polanski through Mansonian lens....
