I've worked on a local (for me) Rhode Island angle to the "Hit The Beard" sweepstakes. A major setback occurred recently when my extremely highly placed source -- one who was intimately involved in these in-state events -- passed on.
In brief: There is good reason to believe that, pre-JFK assassination, Johnny Rosselli met with Raymond L.S. Patriarca, LCN boss in New England and number one go-to guy for hitters for the most sensitive of contracts, in order to recruit two of the latter's best buttons for the Castro whack-a-thon.
I'm referencing a two-man partnership which included a time-motion savant and a world-class hitter -- "The Planner and the Pro," as I've labeled them in a copyright-protected literary project.
The story I have, which is less then satisfactorily sourced for now (and I am nothing if not an obsessive sourcier, if M. Pepin will forgive the pun), is that Patriarca declined because he knew the game was rigged to fail.
The forces that were burning assassination teams hunting Castro benefited from Castro's survival in power.
These forces killed JFK.

If an individual, through either his own volition or events over which he had no control, found himself taking up residence in a country undefined by flags or physical borders, he could be assured of one immediate and abiding consequence: He was on his own, and solitude and loneliness would probably be his companions unto the grave.
-- James Lee Burke, Rain Gods
You can't blame the innocent, they are always guiltless. All you can do is control them or eliminate them. Innocence is a kind of insanity.
