And basically we are talking about money. The threat to economic dominance of the west at that time, if the Soviet backed wars of liberation are allowed to continue. It was cheaper to fund a banana republic dictator and his military, than build hospitals and schools for his people, in order to have cart blanche with his country's natural resources.
