Recall the scene in the Matrix I when Neo sees the same black cat twice. It's deja vu and that means the machines change something: it's a "glitch in the matrix."
With regards to the fiery death of Michael Hastings, there was a glitch in the matrix. Did you spot it? Was it the engine and transmission blown free from the Mercedes for dozens of yards? No. How about the car blowing up into flames instantly? Or how about the fact that the body was burned to charcoal and yet it was identified by a fingerprint? That would be a pretty good guess. How about Sorcha Fal proclaiming that it was a drone? No. Pre-programmed by my read built into the narrative.
I think the glitch, the tell-tale sign of meddling by the programmers, was the sudden silence. The yawning silence. In this world of "if it bleeds it leads", one in which a scandal of an unsafe Mercedes can speed up and kill the driver in a horrible death. That should have been the story for a week or so. No. Just silence. That was the glitch.
