(Since we're never told what's actually occurring AS IT OCCURS, I wonder if our sophisticated cellphones aren't already "spying" on our thoughts while the NSA, et al, listen-in to what we say out loud.)

I'd doubt they can miniaturize it yet, but I'm sure they'll be able to soon.....
Yes, a mobile phone would be a good place to put them, but it would be hard to keep secret from manufacturers and repair persons, etc. I'm sure they'll find a suitable way to monitor the thoughts of at least those they feel are 'persons of interest'. Private models for the ultra-rich will allow one to know if when someone says 'I love you' whether they really mean it or not.
