A writer friend of mine here in Melbourne gets frequent commentary from an ex-Victorian police officer with a background deep from the undercover realms, and a history that placed him in long proximity to corrupt Vic police and the nastier activities of local (and otherwise) intel agencies. Below is a message from my friend shortly after the event, and the view of the former cop is in bold type.

"The guy was no doubt a nut of tea party style proportion, question is if he was nudged along the way or not. He should have been in jail, that his bail was not revoked, considering his 40 offences, is a red flag according to ******. He thinks the guy was at the least being run as a honeytrap to see who he associated with."
