It's pure speculation, but my guess would be the Yates curtain rod story was the actual plan, and the Wesley/Linnie Mae saga was cobbled together later because someone was unhappy with Plan A. (Too many witnesses could put Oswald in the TSBD when he was supposed to be traveling with Yates, perhaps???)
