LHO literally a twin? Or triplet?

Perhaps we've been missing the simple truth.

And perhaps the multiple birth-related genetic experiments of Mengele and others through the ages have been motivated by metaphysical agendas. If so, the ruling political classes' material support (financial and otherwise) may have been offered -- and accepted -- in return for exclusive rights to utilize end product for relatively prosaic (including deep political) purposes.

Much Nazi science did have metaphysical inspirations and metaphysical ends.

However, fundamentally, Mengele was a crude eugenicist. He was trying to create a blond-haired, blue-eyed Aryan "Master Race" through selective breeding.

I've written about this on DPF before. The reason he lusted after twins was that they provided him with "control" subjects.

Mengele played the "kindly uncle" figure who gave his "special children" sweets. However, typical Mengele experiments involved surgically removing an organ from one twin, or injecting a substance into a twin's eyes or spine. If that twin then died, their body would be dissected to examine the medical evidence. Shortly afterwards, the live twin would be murdered and cut up, to perform an autopsy on the best available "control material".

The claims about Candido Godoi are interesting - if Mengele can be placed in the area at the time. I'm a little dubious that Mengele had discovered a means of increasing the incidence of live born twins to one in five in the 1960s. However, his aim was most definitely to breed blond-haired, blue-eyed children.

It would be important to ascertain whether these blond-haired, blue-eyed children suddenly started appearing in a region which had no history of such births. I myself have visited a remote village on the far side of the Peruvian Andes and seen blond-haired, blue-eyed children. However, they had been born in the village for generations and for centuries, and their origin is almost certainly part of the tangled web of history.

Intelligence agencies have long had an interest in using twins for covert operations. Twins offer great opportunities for confusion and subterfuge, and provide perfect alibis and absolute plausible deniability. So long as only the person running the operation knows that Person A has an identical Twin B....

If it's widely known that Person A has an identical Twin B, then those opportunities for sowing confusion evaporate.

In my judgement, it's important to keep the natural interest of intelligence agencies in twins for operational reasons separate and distinct from Mengele's interest in twins for Nazi eugenic reasons.

Mengele's twins were laboratory rats, for testing his pseduo-scientific hypothesis about the Aryan race.
