Really? I've seen nothing that convinces me that bankers know the game is over and that a "clean slate" is imminent.
On the contrary, it seems to me that that their financial heist and subsequent taxpayer funded bailout has been spectacularly successful and is set to become the template for future generations of smirking, eye-winking, nose-touching Lords of the Universe.

That said, I agree with you David re the above.
To adapt Charles' framework, the traders are mechanics and the bosses of the investment banks and multinationals are, at best, faciitators. I believe most of them are deluded, and have no sense of what will happen when they've sucked the trough dry and robocop can no longer hold back the rioters.
The sponsors are a different case. I suspect a key component of Their game is a perennial Strategy of Tension...
