Teflon (and other nonstick surfaces) emit toxic gases at high heat.

Even DuPont acknowledges the "Teflon flu": flu-like symptoms that
result from breathing Teflon fumes. But they say it's harmless. Uh
huh.

I guess birth defects and cancer are 'harmless'.
