Iran's ruling clerics barred more prominent reform candidates from the ballot, leaving a group of mostly staunch loyalists to the Islamic establishment. Iran's opposition settled on Rowhani as the least objectionable, making the 64-year-old cleric the de facto candidate for reform-minded Iranians.

So, in other words, the Iranian people - hoping for the best - rallied behind the least objectionable candidate in a field restricted by powerful elites and a compliant media. Does that sound like any other country you can think of?

Exactly what happens here. The choices just get worse with every election.
