I'm trying to figure why MacDowall omits Craig's statement that he looked at the rifle not 6 inches away and read "Mauser 7.65" stamped on the barrel?
He does this for one of two reasons:
1) He doesn't want to wreck Craig as a witness to the second Oswald by showing something that would destroy Craig's credibility.
2) MacDowall is MI-6 and the purpose of the entire article isn't to establish the story behind the Carcano but is instead a subtle indirect covert method of wrecking Craig's credibility toward the 2nd Oswald without ever directly mentioning it.
