Hackers take down IAEA server, post contact details online

AFP | Nov 28, 2012, 04.45 PM IST

VIENNA: International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the UN atomic agency, on Wednesday said that hackers had accessed one of its computer servers and posted the contact details of some of the watchdog's experts on the internet.IAEA spokeswoman Gill Tudor said "some contact details" related to experts working with the agency were published on a hacker site on Sunday.
The hackers posted a statement on Cryptome.org calling for an investigation into the nuclear programme of Israel, the Middle East's sole if undeclared nuclear-armed country, which is not a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. [my bolding]
"The IAEA deeply regrets this publication of information stolen from an old server that was shut down some time ago. In fact, measures had already been taken to address concern over possible vulnerability in this server," Tudor said.
She added that the IAEA's technical and security teams "are continuing to analyse the situation and do everything possible to help ensure that no further information is vulnerable."

Even though I DO like their message, lets just hope some 'hackers' don't learn how to launch nukes of any country...bad enough those who have their fingers on the triggers. Cyberwarfare has really come of age. There are almost no protections unless one has a TOP notch computer and TOP notch knowledge of encryption protocols and the right software.......I'm talking really sophisticated stuff, here. :loco:
