EU monitors informed of Georgian armor accumulation near S.Ossetian village
TSKHINVALI - Residents of the village of Grom have complained to South Ossetia's human rights commissioner David Sanakoyev about the accumulation of Georgian troops on the village limits.
At least 20 armored vehicles and around 50 troops have been drawn to the Georgian village of Adzvi on the other side of the border over the past 24 hours, they claimed.
"I immediately got in touch with the South Ossetian border guards, who confirmed these reports," Sanakoyev told Interfax on Saturday.
"The concentration of Georgian armed forces could pose a direct threat to civilians populating this area. Therefore, I informed the EU
monitoring mission in Georgia about the Georgian side's moves. One of
the EU monitors Mathias Van Locheisen promised to inquire into the
claims and take all necessary measures to prevent tensions in the border
villages," Sanakoyev said.
