Peace and Activism

"I wasn't disturbing the peace. I was disturbing the war" ~ Ammon Hennacy, activist (1893 -1970)


This training course is intended to provide students with theoretical understanding
and practical experience of the techniques of peace activism.
Direct involvement in and evaluation of concrete examples of peace activism is
central to this course.
Learning Objectives:
After successfully completing the course you should be able to:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of activism in the context of the peace movement.
2. Identify different situationally relevant forms of peace activism.
3. Effectively communicate ideas and information related to peace activism.
4. Participate actively in peace activism.
The course will be taught during May—July in five intensive all-day (Fridays 10am- -
5.00pm with one hour break) sessions and will culminate in a 6 day trip to Central
Queensland to participate in the Peace Convergence at the time of the Talisman Sabre
joint US-Australian military exercises.
This social activism training course complements the CPACS academic unit of Nonviolence and Social
Change.
Taught by Professor Jake Lynch, Dr Hannah Middleton, Harpreet Kalsi, Estelle Hinds
and Trent Newman
Course registration fee: $500 (including course materials and travel costs to Peace
Convergence, Rockhampton Queensland).
