Jan Klimkowski Wrote:Yeah - we did this on page 4 of the thread.

I don't follow. What does that have to do with Burning Man?

Do you know what Burning Man is?

Do you know the kinds of people who go to Burning Man?

Google it...These are the inheritors of the 60's seekers...

Nah Ciff - you made statements about Satanism in general.

"Satanism" as I understand it refers to Anton LaVey and the Church of Satan. I've been clear that this is the basis for my argument -- LaVey's version. Levenda specifically called out the Church of Satan.

I won't ignore Crowley but I'll ignore Michael Aquino all day long. Fuck him in the neck.

Now, tell me why you think Crowley reserved his "Law" only for himself?

"Fuck him in the neck", eh? That's an interesting choice of phrase.

What's your problem with Colonel Mikey?

Do you regard him as a heretic from the Church of Satan?

Cliff Varnell Wrote:Now, tell me why you think Crowley reserved his "Law" only for himself?

Ask Gurdjieff.

We could spend days discussing the symbolic and practical meaning of Crowley's "bloody sacrifice".

I've done it before. As has David Guyatt.

I can already tell there will be no meeting of minds, so there's simply no point.

"I do not like thee Dr Fell
Why that is I cannot tell
But I do not like thee Dr. Fell."

I thought he was a sleazy cat the first time I saw him and I haven't seen or read anything to improve my initial impression.

I think the intentional irony of "the Church of Satan"-- Anton having a larf at religion -- makes the notion of a "heretic" funny.

I think a Satanist is "heretical" when they start "following" someone. It's one thing to follow ritual "black magic" activities among consenting adults as the equivalent of prayer -- but surrendering one's own free will to another is the opposite of "Satanic", as is worshiping some devilish higher power.

That's how I understand "Satanism," at any rate. Your mileage obviously varies.

Okay, so it takes days to establish Crowley as a Great Beast.

Levenda called out the Church of Satan for having "common ground" with Neo-Nazis and Klansman.

Rather than defend this spurious charge you wish to bring up Michael Aquino and your elaborate case against Al Crowley.

It's Laurel Canyon Babylon all over again.

Guilt-by-association smear after smear after smear.

A strategy of breaking the tension with Jan (o.t.)...

I haven't cracked Gravity's Rainbow since 1976 when I got Lost In the Zone circa pg 330. Haven't read much on the threads here at DPF.

But I've alwayws thought I had Slothrop's "Mystery Stimulus" figured out.

The hand clap.

It was easy enough for an undergrad to do, and The Clap (get it? nyuck nyuck) would occupy 2.5 column inches a year in the average college humor mag.

The JFK Assassination Critical Research Community and the 1980-'85 hardcore punk rock movement both share a common legacy and a common fate.

Do. It. Yourself.

Hardcore punk rock was a DIY rocknroll subgenre. Non-musicians formed bands, bands booked their own shows and put out their own records, fans put out their own zines. This legacy helped fuel the internet DIY revolution.

The JFK Research Community was a DIY murder investigation, an army of private citizens doing their own digging.

None of us had a choice, right? If we didn't do it ourselves -- it wasn't going to get done.

Both movements ended up hidebound, Balkanized, and marginalized.

I've never gone. In the 90's I was a stuck up punk rock and this was just hippie shit.

Now I'm too old for 8 days in the desert.

It's not called "counter-culture" anymore -- although it clearly embodies that spirit.

It's hippie-hiphop-triphop-punk-goth-technogeek-gay-het-lez-bi-trans-poly culture.

It's the children of the children of the 60's (or their grandchildren).

Extreme self-reliance...extreme self-expression...sounds vaguely...satanic...
