Simkin says he's closing the Education Forum because it is too expensive at $1500 a year.
He said he was disappointed because forums in general tend to attract "disturbed people". I hope he wasn't referring to DiEugenio with that remark. Personally I think Simkin is a little too sensitive to academic debate, which can get personal at times. However I found a plus side to it as a student since those who are being accused usually defend themselves with their best stuff.

I don't believe that John was refurring to DiEugenio when he said what he said, I believe it was the comments made about Debera Conway and JFK Lancer posted below. I believe John would debate his infomation as he has put up quite a bit over the years for debate, and I also believe that John knows when to ignore the debate all together. (as an example, I contacted John informing him that the information he had on Frank Castro was incorrect, I told him that Frank was never in the BOP. But, never heard anything back from John.) Frank and my father were close, I met Frank a year ago or so, we have stayed in close contract over the phone since than. I just think John wants to debate the information in a more rational way, unlike the way Mr. Josephs and I apporached the Bay of Pigs, although, I still know he's wrong and I'm right, LOL...

Maybe we should go and "mine" the education forum for the good bits it does have before it closes...

If he's talking about Charles' pornographic attack on Debra Conway I think Charles was being deliberately excessive about certain sites being too receptive to the official story and Lone Nutters in order to make a point. However much it was in bad taste.

I believe he is closing it because of the expense. I take him at his word. The Conway posts were ages ago and why would he care what is posted here if it is not about him? I met a lot of terrific people there and will miss EF. Been ten years for me.

We have already offered to host - unaltered and untouched - all of the EF archives free of charge and with John retaining all copyright at all times in the event he closes it. John didn't respond to the repeated offer. His non-reaction undoubtedly has to do with historical reasons to do with our bust up there, which I understand - but even so the thought of all those archives disappearing out of spite strikes me a petty and small-minded.
Anyway, my guess is that John might be pushing for donations from members - hence the cost figure he mentioned.
The shadow is a moral problem that challenges the whole ego-personality, for no one can become conscious of the shadow without considerable moral effort. To become conscious of it involves recognizing the dark aspects of the personality as present and real. This act is the essential condition for any kind of self-knowledge. Carl Jung - Aion (1951). Do to the way I was booted out of the EF, I'll shed no tears. It seems to me, however, this is about the fifth time I've heard the announcement it was to close. I find the 'reason' odd. While $1500 is not nothing, it is well within Simkin's means, and I'm sure several of the regulars have money, if asked. In the past he always claimed to not want to deal with the fighting and infighting - but now its money. Color me skeptical.

Again? Good lord! More goodbyes than Nellie Melba! Maybe it is really happening this time? I can't believe it costs that much to run. It usually cost us less than $100 per year and we don't take any advertising. And never will. If cost is a factor it doesn't sound like he will keep the forum up for reference. History has shown that JS doesn't seem to have much regard for the historical record with the many major deletions that have occurred there over the years. I have downloaded it in any case if any one wants copies. Any one can download it themselves by using terminal and typing:
wget --limit-rate=200k --no-clobber --convert-links --random-wait -r -p -E -e robots=off -U mozilla http://educationforum.ipbhost.com/for the whole website or
for just the JFK forum
This works for Apple and Linux computers. Not sure how to do it for Windows but there is other software around for windows and there is a link here in our research tools board. Might take a while depending on your computer specs.
