Interesting parallel in history: Stevenson and Powell
#1
In 1961, as the Bay of Pigs was getting under way, Adlai Stevenson, US ambassador to the UN, tells the UN that the Cuban military is revolting against its communist leaders, and produces a picture of a bullet riddled B-26, which Stevens has been told is from Cuba, flown by a defector who bombed his own airbase. Of course, this scheme was a lie, concocted by CIA guy David Atlee Phillips. The defector's story is unmasked in hours by a skeptical, observant, and independent press. The Bay of Pigs fails before direct US military intervention.

Flash forward:

In 2003, as the Iraq War was getting under way, Colin Powell, US ambassador to the UN, tells the UN that the Iraqis have been developing weapons of mass destruction, and produces a vial of simulated anthrax, which Powell has been assured is still being manufactured and stored by the Iraqis. Of course, this story is a lie, concocted by persons still unknown to us. The story is unmasked in years of painstaking inspection by UN inspectors, and after the loss of tens of thousands of lives, after being widely disseminated and rebroadcast by a compliant, gullible, and corporately-owned-and-operated press. The War in Iraq 'succeeds" after direct US military intervention. (If you call this current mess a "success".)
"All that is necessary for tyranny to succeed is for good men to do nothing." (unknown)

James Tracy: "There is sometimes an undue amount of paranoia among some conspiracy researchers that can contribute to flawed observations and analysis."

Gary Cornwell (Dept. Chief Counsel HSCA): "A fact merely marks the point at which we have agreed to let investigation cease."

Alan Ford: "Just because you believe it, that doesn't make it so."
