Question about Mae Brussel and pre-internet CT information exchange
#21
Matthew Poe Wrote:What's the word on what's contained in Mae's archive? I can just imagine the wealth of magazines and clippings. Files and files of them.

My good friend John Judge often made the point of its enormous value. I know, first, she had a nearly complete collection of books, magazines and newspaper clippings [up to her death]. Next, she had letters that were sent to her with leads - sometimes by persons actually involved in some of the things she was researching. I would think, however, that her research notes would have the greatest value [connecting the dots - even dots she didn't have a broadcast on]. Also, a number of shows, I believe, have been lost - and she had notes she followed for the shows....often speaking extemporaneously to supplement her show notes. We also know that much of what she was working on at the end of her life she purposely did not broadcast all the details of [names not named, etc.], as she knew from the death threats she was on to something rather sensitive to someone. It would be interesting to know if she had hints of who was trying to threaten her [and likely killed her], as well as things like how much John Lennon helped her - and who else secretly did...et al. I assume there is a treasure trove of research which she either had not gotten to the bottom of yet, or simply had not yet gotten around to put into a show.

It is possible Bill Kelly is working on some thing because he is also involved with John Judges archive.

Sounds like amazing stuff.

I am sometimes awestruck, listening to snippets of her broadcasts, how ahead of her time she was.

Of course there were some mis-steps too, like her vouching for Bruce Roberts, but no can bat 1000.

You can get Mae's shows on CD for $60 or $70 here http://www.maebrussell.com/CD%20catalog/...t%201.html
If you look through the (incomplete) show listings you'll also get some ideas of how her shows got out [names of radio stations, etc.]
